Conversations with Savannah Honarbakht & Taylor Russell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Honarbakht & Taylor Russell.

Hi Savannah & Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Blessed be! We are Savannah and Taylor, the eclectic witchy women behind Libra Rising Collectives. We are best friends that just so happen to also own a small business together (as well as the same rising sign, hence our business name)! Taylor and I (Savannah) met when I first moved to North Texas almost three years ago. We admired each other from a far until we inevitably became inseparable. We share a bond through all things magical, mysterious, and macabre. Our bond then birthed our business!

We come from two very different creative pathways; however, they intersect marvelously to form a dark union of curated art and antiquities for the grim-hearted.

Taylor (she/her) is a classically trained artist and has been creating art since she was in grade school. Her specialty lies in oil, acrylic, and watercolor painting but has recently applied her extensive knowledge to the craft of digital art. She designs and creates her own style of art that is grounded in photo-realism and impressionism. She enjoys drawing aesthetically pleasing designs, ranging from her own original ideas to favored pop-culture references. She even takes on commissions for whatever your heart and mind may desire. When Taylor is not creating art, she loves trying new local restaurants and watching true-crime documentaries.

Savannah (she/her) is a longtime admirer and collector of vintage and antiques. She has been dubbed an “old-soul” since she was a young girl, so she figured she might as well own it! She has an eye for commodities and oddities that range from the Victorian Era to Mid-Century Modern and then to the 1980’s Art Deco revival era. She hand curates a collection of antique and vintage homewares, decor, fashion, and more. When Savannah is not hunting for the next best vintage thing, she is a full-time graduate student earning her second master’s degree, in Marriage and Family Therapy to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She also enjoys curating for her first vintage lovechild, Brick House Eclectic and loves spending time with her dogs and loved ones.

Libra Rising Collectives is a safe inclusive place for all the mischiefs and weirdos. We put forth our manifestations and intentions in everything we create and curate. We offer our art and antiquities via our Instagram and Etsy page, as well as local Denton markets!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We think it’s fair to say that the past almost two years have been a bumpy and crazy ride. However, we both have grown a tremendous amount as individuals in that time which has allowed us to grow together collectively. Starting a small business is never easy and can often be scary. But pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones has allowed us to achieve the unthinkable! Our trials and tribulations have shown us that we are capable of overcoming our biggest fears and doubts and can attain whatever goals we set forth.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Libra Rising Collectives is a collaborative business that offers a curious collection of art & antiquities curated for the grim-hearted. Where two libra-rising charmers with different creative pathways intersect to become one magical curation for the mischiefs & weirdos. With hours spent on delicately creating and fine-tuning each piece of art and a substantial base of knowledge in all things antique and vintage, we provide all who are looking with unique pieces to adorn their sacred space. Savannah & Taylor are two eclectic witches that place intention, magic, & the love of friendship into everything carefully sourced & created. Conjured in Denton, Tx!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is owning your own creativity and individuality and utilizing it to put forth a product that you are proud of. It is having the confidence to not be afraid to step into the unknown and take a risk. It’s all about how you define it.
