Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanique Davis.
Hi Shanique, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Shanique Davis and I am the founder and host of a talk show called TalkTruth Series. It was established in April 2020, about a few weeks after I published my first book- BREAKING YOUR BARRIERS. It was brought to my attention that a lot of authors have written books and would not be able to get the exposure they needed to share their message/ testimonials because they were not famous. I was also part of that struggle group and I realized that I could really add value to the author community by offering a service that was not very common. I started interviewing authors in the United States, now I interview mostly Jamaicans. To date, I’ve interviewed over 100 authors including businesses that have a story that will create a positive impact in the world. My goal is to continue to expand my reach by sharing the livelihood and legacy of the people I meet through live streaming.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This is one question I don’t get asked very often. I am still learning how to treat differing personalities. I’ve been turned down for interviews on the scheduled date by several authors. Some didn’t bother to respond. Some didn’t bother showing up. Some cancelled several times until there was no show at all. It has been a joy and a pain. But I guess that’s what makes it so unique. I’ve had to take breaks due to the frustration that came with being a show host. There was even a time when my internet would fail for several days but I’d always do my best to keep the communication flowing with my interviewees so they understand what’s happening on my end and we’d make necessary arrangements to reschedule.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the author of 3 books: BREAKING YOUR BARRIERS, God’s Promise, Man’s Obedience, and Don’t Let It Ruin the Life of the Party (all self-help books). I fell in love with the self-help method because I was a very private person and I found that being honest with myself while acknowledging the humanity in me allows me to grow into a whole person. I am addicted to self-help novels as well. It has so much personality the average man can relate to it just by taking a little time to read.
I host a talk show that I love because it teaches me how to interact with others and build connections that would not be possible without it.
I am married and a Christian, so I enjoy spending time with my husband, and time fellowshipping with other saints in Christ. I also love reading bible stories, again, they have a lot of personality and lessons we can all learn from if we’d take the time to read them.
I am also a very practical person, and I am a strong believer in practicing whatever I preach.
What makes you happy?
Healthy relationships free from strife, jealousy, and greed. Since I started my journey of BREAKING BARRIERS (all the things that would hold me back from becoming the best version of myself), I’ve realized that not everyone who says they’re genuine truly are. You have to pay attention to the little things that are inconsistent so you can maintain healthy boundaries. I always love the feeling I get whenever someone tells me that my books really impacted their life and it makes them not only want to get up and go but they actually do so. Boundaries make me happy too.
