Conversations with Shateria Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shateria Johnson.

Hi Shateria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

― Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter

A quote that has stuck with me for several years. Growing up I watched the women in my family work extremely hard. Just looking at where we came from, you probably wouldn’t believe where we are today. Every single one of them has created success in different ways. Some own their own businesses and others are excelling in major roles at corporate levels. No matter what life has thrown at them, they never gave up.

My great-grandmother and mom were major influences in shaping me into the woman I am today. I think I embody many of their traits. They both worked extremely hard to provide for me and my sister. And because of that, I vowed to always work ten times harder for what I want in my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life hasn’t always been smooth for me. I’ve experienced some challenges along the way. But I keep going. I know what it’s like to not know where life is taking you. But I’ve learned to have patience, keep moving forward, and believe everything will eventually work in my favor.

In 2006 my daughter Kamyri Symone Smith passed away from SIDS. The loss of my child pushed me, even more, to dream big and always start each day with gratitude. I always say she is the reason I adapted an entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve dedicated my life to creating a legacy in memory of her and for the benefit my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently working as a flight attendant for one of the leading airlines in the United States. It has been a great career with fantastic opportunities. I am a recently licensed as a Loan Signing Agent.

Also, I’m taking classes toward a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Finance.

I own and operate an online hair store called Excellent Choice Extensions.

Excellent Choice Extensions is a company I created to help women who suffer from hair loss or who simply enjoy changing their hairstyles. We offer a wide range of other products and have unbeatable prices.

I learned from a wise person to always stay curious throughout life, so I keep busy learning ways to improve myself physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially.

I am proud that I challenge myself. I’ve learned a lot and I continue to grow.

I believe my work ethic, my level of empathy, my resolve to keep my word, and my intellectual curiosity are a few of the things that may set me apart from others.

What makes you happy?
Life makes me happy. Family and friends make me happy. Having the experience of being a mom makes me happy

Knowing that each day is a chance to start over or change something makes me happy.

I love my life and wouldn’t change a thing about my journey.

My hopes are that my story can inspire others with similar struggles to keep up the good fight for their lives and never give up on their dreams or goals. Find joy in life and take things one day at a time.
