Today we’d like to introduce you to Shuang Gou.
Hi Shuang, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am an artist working on painting and digital works, currently pursuing my Intermedia Graduate degree at UTA. I made the journey from China to further my education in this field. I am fond of the welcoming and established artistic community in Dallas, which fosters an inclusive environment for artists like myself.
I transfer from another major to this art field. At the beginning, I faced various challenges because of that, but now I made it through, and I am grateful for my previous experience, which provides inspirations for my artworks.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Since English is not my first language, At the beginning, I encountered some challenges in communication, both in academic settings and in daily life.
Moreover, as a graduate art student transitioning from a different area, it requires me to exert huge effort.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have a strong affinity for melding various media, seamlessly integrating painting and video. My areas of specialization encompass painting and digital art, of which I hold a deep sense of pride. What truly distinguishes my work is the distinctive themes I explore in my art, along with the innovative fusion of video and painting.
My artistic endeavors revolve around probing the spiritual essence of humanity within our modern world. And also shows my reflections on the subtle and complicated psychological world. In the face of the relentless whirlwind of our fast-paced, highly commercial world, I aspire to help individuals reconnect with their innate nature through my art and provide them with a different angle of viewing this world.
I frequently employ symbols and metaphors to convey emotions and sensations that are often beyond the reach of words. I feel the limitation of verbal and written language in human communication and hope to build up communication and understanding beyond the boundaries of languages, culture, and races.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In the creation process, I need to believe in myself and do not give up easily. When I encounter obstacles in my creative process and got stuck, I choose not to surrender easily. Instead, I set aside the challenge temporarily, knowing that fresh inspiration will emerge at a later moment, enabling me to discover the solution to overcome the problem.
