Hi Silvia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
MadreTierra began in the summer of 2017. I had noticed the low-quality candles flooding the market, and it inspired me to dive deep into research on how to craft candles of true quality. Once I committed to creating my own, ideas began to pour in like rain. MadreTierra was born from a deep love for candles and the sacred act of lighting one.
Today, we continue to create candles on a whole new level. Each one carries a theme, affirmations, and my own artwork—or carefully chosen graphics—designed to reflect the candle’s essence and fragrance. Our candles are made with intention, in small batches, to ensure their integrity and quality.
Over time, our offerings have expanded. We now create not only candles, but also natural cleaning products, aromatherapy mists, and body oils. And we’re just getting started—more nature-based creations are on the horizon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. As a creative and entrepreneur, you inevitably face struggles and challenges. Many of mine were internal—especially learning to believe in myself. I knew my product was solid and of high quality, but I carried a fear of putting it “out there.” Things began to shift when people started sharing their feedback, expressing how much they loved my candles and how deeply they appreciated them. That encouragement helped me move past my doubts and step more fully into my purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do several things. I’m an accountant and the founder of Serenity Business Services, my own bookkeeping firm. I’m also the owner and creative force behind MadreTierra Creations.
As a creative, I specialize in crafting high-quality soy candles and aromatherapy products. It all begins with the inspiration—formulating the recipes, designing the artwork, and bringing each product to life. I’m known for the intentionality and emotional resonance of my creations. My candles and products carry a distinct “feeling”—they uplift, soothe, and connect. What sets me apart is the depth of care I pour into each item, not only to support others but also to honor the Earth by minimizing our footprint.
As an accountant, I help small businesses thrive by organizing their books and building systems that allow them to run smoothly. I also guide aspiring entrepreneurs through every step of starting their business. I’m known for my personalized, one-on-one support and the practical solutions I bring to each client’s unique journey.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising about me is that I live in two very different worlds. As a creative, most people don’t realize I’m also an accountant. And as an accountant, many don’t know how deeply creative I am. I tend to keep those roles separate—unless I’m working with a creative client, and then the blend becomes a gift. I’m whimsical and imaginative, yet also grounded and practical. That duality is part of what makes my work so unique.
