Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophia Jiang.
Hi Sophia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Sophia; I’m a 15-year-old girl DJ based in the DFW area in Texas. I have always had a passion for music, and I have been involved in the arts from a young age. I started DJing when I was 14 and have been able to learn and grow quickly thanks to the help from my mentor and support from parents. I released my first mix, “Phire Mix 001,” earlier this year, and my next mix will be releasing this fall on SoundCloud. I am currently working on bookings for this winter and would love to DJ your next event.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely been a bit bumpy, and I would say I struggle with balancing school, extracurriculars, athletics, and making time for music. It has also been difficult being so young; unfortunately, I do not get the same opportunities to DJ as I would if I were an adult. Although it is not always easy my passion for DJing keeps me inspired.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a fifteen-year-old girl DJ, and I love playing house, techno, and high-energy dance music. I am most proud of my mix “Phire mix 001,” that I released on Soundcloud with the help of my mentor Dyluxe. I believe that what sets me apart from others is that I can’t technically DJ at nightclubs or festivals yet because of my age. I am looking forward to releasing my own music and playing sets at hockey games, sporting events, festivals, clubs, and much more in the future.
