Conversations with Stephanie Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Ward.

Hi Stephanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
A Tapestry of Life

They’ve called me a unicorn, the most interesting woman in the world—labels I wear lightly. My life has unfolded in distinct phases, each marked by a unique blend of challenge and exhilaration. There’s a rhythm to my existence: a period of internal turmoil followed by a burst of creative energy and new beginnings.

I started my career as a journalist, immersing myself in the fast-paced world of metropolitan news. The Reno Gazette Journal, Dallas Morning News, and USA Today were my proving grounds. While I thrived on the adrenaline rush, a growing sense of disconnect began to emerge. It was then that I realized my compass was pointing in a different direction.

My next chapter was a bold leap into the art world. Stephanie’s Collection, and later, the Stephanie Ward Gallery, became more than just businesses; they were cultural hubs. Artists, entrepreneurs, and community members found a home within these walls. The gallery was a place where ideas ignited, connections formed, and the city’s soul found expression.

Then life took an unexpected turn. Custody of two young children transformed my world. The challenges were immense, but so was my faith. I emerged from those tumultuous years with a newfound strength and a deep-rooted desire to help others.

Gifts for Moms was born from this experience. It’s more than a nonprofit; it’s a lifeline for single mothers. Our online community has become a sanctuary where women can share their stories, find support, and build resilience.

While navigating the demands of motherhood and philanthropy, I rediscovered my passion for art. Upcycling furniture became a therapeutic outlet, evolving into a business called Spicewood Design. Travel has also been a source of inspiration, leading to a global community focused on celebrating Black artists.

As the chapters of my life continue to unfold, I embrace the unknown with excitement. The future holds endless possibilities, and I’m eager to see where this new journey will lead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle has been to live in total freedom and authenticity. My struggles are always those that have me bumping up against things that try to limit stifle or define me. I am a survivor and I often feel like I am an army of one. My feelings show on my face which is not a good thing when you work in corporate American. Truth is always my guild but we live in a world where honesty is no longer a virtue. Sometimes I feel out of step.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, philanthropist, advid traveler and digital marketer by profession.

How do you define success?
Success to me in living the way God made me. Living as my authentic self, creating, laughing and traveling the world, and sharing my adventure with those less inclined.
