Conversations with Sydney Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Harris

Hi Sydney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been writing and creating ever since I was young. I feel like my story is similar to most artists’ in that I started out singing in church, and since then have been cultivating my own unique sound. I don’t like to be put in a box so it’s hard to say what genre, I just create music how I hear it in my head!

I’ve been releasing my own music since 2022 and have been growing and evolving as an artist since then. It’s a passion, a labor of love, and investment, but always worth it when I hear how the songs help and relate to people from all walks of life. I count it a privilege, I have this gift and so I have an obligation to use for good, we all do!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I only write when I’m inspired, I’ve tried to sit down and crank out music in the past but that’s never borne as much fruit as when I live my life and commit myself to create when I feel it. I think the only hindrance as an independent artist is simply the production. I’ve got catalogs of unfinished work on my computer, but when you’re going about it on your own, money is the only thing stopping you. But I think if anything it’s challenged my belief in myself, if you’re truly passionate about it, you’ll go the distance regardless of who’s backing you up. I’m at a point now where I believe my voice is valuable and so I support myself, and I have an amazing community of friends and family who do also, so that’s huge!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer-songwriter and content creator, you can find all my work under Sydney Andrea (my stage name) on whatever music platform you’re on, and on YouTube! There’s a euphoric feeling when you’re operating in your destiny, doing what you love and what brings you life. I’ve found it in creating, using my words and music to inspire myself and those I can in my little sphere of the world. We all influence someone, it’s what you do with that influence that matters!

People ask me all the time which song I love the best, or which YouTube video I’m most proud of. I think my answer though is that I’m most proud of my yes, we have a lot’s of creativity in this world, but I think of how much has NOT been created because people said no to the very thing they desired to do or share. People say no for a lot of reasons, fear of man, insecurity, or simply unbelief that they matter. I’m here and existing and so I matter, there’s a reason I’m here and I, myself am so grateful I’ve found it in creating. I don’t measure success by numbers or notoriety, but in doing what I know I should and am made to do.

I don’t know what sets me apart… there’s 8 billion people in the world, and I’m sure many have my same face and others have a similar story or personality. There’s also nothing new under the sun, but I value authenticity, bravery, and enjoying the journey…and I don’t see that a lot in today’s culture.

As far as being known though, my most popular video is a cover of a song called ‘Reckless Love’ and my most streamed song releases are ‘Lord of All’ and ‘There is a Power’.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’m excited to release a new single called ‘Devoted’ on September 20th, 2024! It’ll be available on all music platforms, so listen and share it if you feel it could help someone!

It’s a song about striving, releasing, and abiding in true love. It’s my most vulnerable piece of work yet, but authenticity breeds authenticity, so my hope is that it allows people to reflect, assess the condition of their hearts and hopefully find freedom in a world that’s often bound by anxiety and an unhealthy attachment of performing for love. True love is kind, patient, and endures, I hope people experience that through this song and their life.
