Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania (Tati) Gonzalez
Hi Tania (Tati), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I received my cosmetology degree through high school, I realized I didn’t wanna work regular high school jobs so I started apprenticing at a small salon. I received my license in 2019. The beauty industry really started booming and I wanted to grow and put myself out there more so I began to booth rent. I later put myself through barber school and became dual licensed in 2022.
Since then, I opened my own suite in Grand Prairie (Pinnacle of Style) and work part-time commission at Crecer Dallas in Bishop arts.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not necessarily at the beginning, it’s hard being a newer stylist/barber anywhere you go and learning as you go. Especially being a woman in the industry you always feel like someone is waiting for you to fail. Learning to be confident in myself, was probably one of the hardest ones because your job is so based on other peoples critique.
As well as having an identity crisis between wanting to be a full-time barber/hairstylist I really had to find a balance of being both because I truly just enjoy hair.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a dual licensed cosmetologist/barber that specializes in haircutting and color.
I feel like throughout the years of really grown as a person alongside with just being a stylist/barber. I’ve really grown an amazing clientele. One thing that I pride myself on is never limiting myself to anything I’m always willing to learn a new skill or more information and listen to any advice, anyone might have. I’m never afraid to ask for help, I take pride in what I do, and love what I do.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I feel like there’s risks to everything we do you’re always risking something in order to gain another. When I left my first salons/shops, I was risking losing clients/loosing money. I just kept telling myself you have so much more to gain, it’ll be okay. I don’t necessarily consider myself a risk taker, but in this industry, there’s always gonna be big risk and small risk. There’s always surprise outcomes, waiting in store for certain things, but that’s OK. You have to learn to roll with it and sometimes it’s hard, but what risk isn’t. What’s for you is for you, no matter how far you run and what isn’t it doesn’t matter how close you stand in front of it.
