Conversations with Taylor Sullivan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Sullivan.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I wouldn’t be me without photography. I literally cannot imagine my life without it. Being behind my camera, freezing moments in time for people, is like another world for me. Coming from a rather lower-class family who had to live pay check to pay check, Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d become mother of 3 beautiful babes within 4 years & an absolute DREAM of a husband who would inspire and push me to become my best self that would get to be an ARTIST for her life career, by 31! Photography isn’t just my career; it is me. And honestly, it’s obvious now that it has ALWAYS been me.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. When trying to get your own business off the ground, they say you’ll know within the first 5 years if you’ll reach success or not. Throw 3 pregnancies within 4 years of that! But every minute of the struggle was worth it, and I’d do it all again for my art.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I specialize in Lifestyle photography. But I also LOVE birthing photography & event photography. I’m mostly known for my outdoor lifestyle and family photography. I’d say I’m definitely most proud of the fact that people really choose me, over and over again too! In a session with me, you’ll probably leave feeling like we just hung out for an hour. I like to really get to know my clients. Each and every one of them. It helps me in capturing them on their best lights.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
To be completely honest, the photography industry can be pretty rough as the competition is extremely stiff! But if everyone could just realize there are ALL kinds of kinds, and we can all win, the industry could be something so much more powerful. So, Facebook groups have actually been a huge part of mentorship in my career. Hundreds of like-minded artists who share similar values as me was a complete game changer for my vision.
