Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddy Hayes.
Hi Teddy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While living in New York City, I was inspired by all the creatives and artists I found myself around. In and out of undergrad, my friend Zach suggested I try cosmetology. I was always inspired by fashion photography and editorial styling, so getting my cosmetology degree seemed like a no-brainer, and I was kicking myself if I didn’t come up with it sooner. However, application COVID-19 happened, and my dreams of going to school in NYC fell short. I decided to move back home to St. Louis to get my cosmetology degree. Right after graduation, I moved in with my brother here in Dallas to begin my career!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say smooth, but definitely not as bumpy as others. In New York, I fell into the nightlife crowd and lost any career motivation that I had before moving to the city. Caught up in the glitz and glamour of the big city, I went to partying a little too hard. I found yoga and meditation in 2019, and that’s when things really started to come together for me. All my yogi-artist friends in New York encouraged me to follow a creative career path, so I did!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist in Northeast Dallas and Blow Salon. I specialize in haircutting and live in color. I am most proud of the people and connections I get to meet doing this line of work. I think what sets me apart is I love helping people figure out what makes them beautiful and unique because everyone has something beautiful about them that no one else has!
