Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Strange Johnston
Hi Theresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong focus on public relations and healthcare, with my most recent role being at a Hospice from which I have retired. I am eager to utilize my expertise to deliver informative presentations on subjects like Alzheimer’s and team leadership. Having worked with non-profit organizations for the majority of my career, I possess a nuanced understanding of their operations and challenges.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Covid kind of put a fork in the road for me as I had not planned on retiring so soon. So I had to make a decision to go back to work or find purpose in retirement. I did that. I feel like I am now a professional Volunteer.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist, I have utilized the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on painting and selling my artwork. Currently, my pieces are displayed in various locations around McKinney, and I occasionally receive commissions. I also participate in charitable art projects, such as Empty Bowls and The Tiny Door Project.
In addition, I will soon assume the role of president for the McKinney Historical Neighborhood Association, which prioritizes keeping our neighbors informed, enlightened, and entertained through various events.
Since moving to McKinney in 2014, I have served on numerous boards; however, I take particular pride in my involvement with McKinney Dia de los Muertos, which celebrates the lives of those who have passed through music, art, and personal messages.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am enthusiastic about my participation in the Book Club and enjoy listening to true life mysteries podcasts. Additionally, I am a MajJong enthusiast and engage in weekly games with a group of ladies in McKinney. I also handle social media responsibilities for the McKinney Historic Neighborhood Association and McKinney Dia de los Muertos, which allows me to maintain my public relations expertise and community ties.
