Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Walker
Hi Tina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started creating content for social media while working in network marketing, initially to boost team morale and attract clients. Over time, I began doing it just for fun, and eventually left network marketing altogether. I work full-time in a corporate position, and when Covid hit, working from home gave me more time to explore content creation. My granddaughter introduced me to TikTok, which as a Baby Boomer, was totally new to me. It became a way to stay social in a changing world. My husband and I, along with close friends, Tim & Jett, even started a weekly “Name That Tune” series, connecting with people across the U.S. and abroad. I also shared TikTok with my 82-year-old father at the time, and we created videos together before he passed. As my following grew, I brought my initially hesitant husband on board, and soon, brands began reaching out for collaborations. Now, I get approached by 10-30 brands a week, and I choose partnerships based on how the products can benefit me, my family, or my followers. It’s been a journey of doing what I love and just like the old adage “do what you love and the money will come”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth journey. My upbringing – performing in a band, being on stage, and participating in church programs – really prepared me for the creative side of content creation. My biggest challenge; however, has been the technology. But with family and friends support and affordable training available, I’ve been able to build the foundation I needed and grow my confidence through trial and error. My journey started when I saw an on-line course on TikTok advertising that companies were looking for GenX & Baby Boomers to create UGC videos.
I watched the same video over and over trying to decide if I could learn something new and if I could bring value. Taking the course was the wisest decision I could have made. This journey has been so much fun, learning as I go and building the skills needed to grow my client base and target audience. Each collaboration is different. In the beginning, one of the scariest things was to price out a project and start negotiating with the brand. As in any business, one learns the value of what they have to offer. I have come to enjoy talking deliverable requirements and every project is an opportunity to learn new things and develop my skills. I work with companies all over the world. I’ve developed long-term, repeat customers. I have learned that all prices are negotiable. As I continue in my journey, and my confidence grows, this current road may guide me to the possibility of even facilitating an on-line course for others. I love to share, assist others, and watch as their confidence grows. While there have been challenges, each step has helped me develop and expand in ways I didn’t expect.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of my corporate career, I’m an UGC creator who specializes in producing authentic, engaging videos that highlight products in a relatable way. My content helps brands connect with their audience in a meaningful manner. What sets me apart is my ability to speak directly to my audience, especially as a Baby Boomer, creating a sense of trust and relatability with the products I feature. I’m incredibly proud of the diverse and supportive community I’ve built over the years. It’s been rewarding to form real relationships with people from all walks of life. I’m also deeply grateful for the encouragement I’ve received from my family and friends, especially my husband, who despite his initial hesitation, became an active part of this journey. Their support means the world to me. Not only do they encourage me, but they also frequently get involved in the content creation process, bringing enthusiasm and value to my projects. My husband and I have a lot of fun making videos together.
I’ve been able to balance my full-time job with gaining recognition in the UGC community. What started as a side gig to supplement my income has grown into a passion that could easily become my post-retirement career, allowing me to create content from anywhere. With our goal of traveling, I can see this becoming a reality where I continue working while on the road.
One of the things I’m so proud of is my ability to set and achieve my goals, even when it pushes me out of my comfort zone – especially in learning new technology. It’s been a continuous journey of growth, and I’ve learned so much along the way. I take pride in my adaptability and willingness to evolve, which has played a key role in my success.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’m one of five children, raised by two amazing parents who were married for 67 years until my dad passed away a year ago. Growing up, I learned a lot from the strong relationship my parents had and the work ethic they instilled in us. My father worked two jobs but still made time to teach all of his children how to play musical instruments, and we even had a family band,. That experience really helped me develop my showmanship and love for performing. I inherited my father’s sense of humor and his love for being on stage, which has definitely helped in my content creation today. I was always active in school and athletics, and I love participating in plays and other activities. I was the kind of person who was friends with everyone, organized, and always easygoing. I am the person who wants things done correctly and was never shy on speaking my mind. If you ask my siblings, they may jokingly refer to me as the family’s “drill sergeant”. Even during family reunions, I would organize games and managed to “convince” the adults to participate. My cousin, Jim, here in Texas, would always say that I could make him do anything and he would be afraid to disagree, but then he would smile. Personality wise, I tend to sit back observe, and get a feel for people and situations before jumping in. I hate procrastination. I’ve always had a wide range of interests, from being a dedicated sports mom when my two sons were young, to my deep passion for music. I am passionate with a huge heart for family and friends. Music has also been a constant in my life, from playing instruments to now enjoying live music at local venues around the DFW area, especially watching our friend’s band, In Lamuns Terms. My love for music, sports, and family has always been there, and now with video content creation, I feel like I’ve found a way to bring all those passions together.
