Today we’d like to introduce you to Tinsley Allison.
Hi Tinsley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Tinsley Allison Designs, is a brand worn by your favorite reality tv stars on Summer House, Real Housewives of Dallas, The Hills, and even ABC’s Shark Tank.
The brand started in 2019 after my mom and I received a collection of designer clothing bequeathed from my Great Aunt.
The clothing was too small to wear, but that’s where inspiration kicked in. Instead of leaving the beautiful pieces in a dark storage container, we decided to find a new life for these pieces, making jewelry from the couture buttons. Hello, sustainable fashion! People started to ask where they could purchase the jewelry, and the business of Tinsley Allison Designs was officially born.
What started as a fun creative outlet has become a fashion brand with headbands, clothing, and even homegoods. All of the items are handmade, and as the brand has expanded, we make it a point to work with other woman-owned small businesses, especially single moms.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge thus far has been gaining exposure in a time when online boutiques seem to be popping up constantly! It’s a very saturated market.
The pandemic also effected Tinsley Allison Designs just as it did most small businesses. Sales slowed and there was even a time that the business almost shut down, but by the grace of God the company survived!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The company is known for and specializes in small-batch and one-of-a-kind handmade products. We handmake our clothing, jewelry, and accessories right here in Dallas! This not only sets us apart from other boutiques that wholesale items made in foreign countries, it also allows us to sell items that you can’t get anywhere else!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is waking up one Christmas morning to find a Christmas tree in the living room. Growing up in a single-mother household we couldn’t afford a tree, and in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve she went out and found a tree! When I woke up, I was so surprised and to this day it is still the best gift I have ever received! And it really has been part of the reason my company focuses on giving back to other single moms.
