Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Glass.
Tori, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a kid, I always enjoyed cooking. I stayed in the kitchen cooking with my mom, learning little things here and there. That really followed me as I went off to college, & I became the designated cook for my friends and I. Now, back then I was just cooking basic things, but because my mom taught me how to season food so well, even my basic dishes were always so good! Lol Fast forward to today , I continued my journey of cooking for family and friends, trying new recipes and techniques, and I found myself enjoying every minute of it. However, it wasn’t until about 2 1/2 years ago that I realized how passionate I was about cooking & the great amount of peace and happiness it brought to me. At that time, I was currently working but I wasn’t being fulfilled at my then job. So after many back and forth conversations with myself, I decided to step out on faith, resign from my position, and start my own business. And that’s when Sea of Soul was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business venture is never smooth lol. Running a food business in the middle of a pandemic has been the biggest struggle. From empty shelves to the cost of food constantly increasing, obstacles have definitely come up. But each day I’m learning to be maneuver around them to get the job done. It’s a humbling experience for sure.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Sea of Soul offers catering services, private dining, and personal/family orders. When eating from Sea of Soul, you can get the best of both worlds; with a mix of Cajun seafood & Southern soul food.
One of my most popular dishes are the delicious seafood boils! (if you haven’t tried them, what are you waiting on?!)
I am most proud of just being here, in this space to be able to do what I love most. I’m not one to take on risk much, so to see myself get uncomfortable and accomplish things I never though I could is amazing. I know that I haven’t reached my full potential, but believe me, it’s definitely in the works.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m actually not much of a risk-taker, and I usually will back away from something if there a lot of risk involved. However, I am starting to realize that in business, risk are necessary. You have to get out of your comfort zone & try new things; challenge yourself from time to time. It’s important to push yourself to higher risk levels to get to that next step.
