Conversations with Tre G

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre G.

Hi Tre, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Trelvis Giles Jr. from Pleasant Grove, Texas—aka Dallas, aka Triple D. I was born and raised in Dallas, which is becoming more rare with how fast the city is growing. Most people know me from radio as TreG from K104 FM.

I grew up in what many would call one of the toughest parts of the city, but to me, it was full of love, laughter, and lessons that shaped who I am today. My mom raised me and my older sister (shoutout Shakyra Morgan) to be independent and aware. She was the strongest woman I knew—right alongside her mother, Rosie Lee Bean—and she passed that resilience down to us.

My dad was present, and we spent weekends with him and his family in Oak Cliff—Oak Cliff America. Summers were spent behind Carter High School, just living life.

Being raised between Pleasant Grove and Oak Cliff gave me perspective. It wasn’t easy—there were setbacks, doubt, and hard lessons—but those experiences pushed me to think bigger and keep going, even when things got tough.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
2. Nothing about the journey was smooth. My mom, Gloria Jean Freeman, was a single mother doing everything she could to provide for us. We moved around a lot trying to find stability, but life had a way of shaking things up.
She was a true warrior. She married my dad before I was born, and they divorced shortly after. She later remarried, and my stepdad—who was military—taught me discipline and structure. I learned from both him and my dad what it means to be a man.

But my grandfather, Anthony Lee Bean, had the biggest impact. He showed me how to lead with both strength and compassion. During my elementary and middle school years, my mom was in an abusive relationship, and my PawPaw stepped in as a protector and provider.

We moved in with my grandparents—five people in a three-bedroom home. It wasn’t ideal, but it was full of love. Those years taught me resilience, family, and what it really means to show up for the people you love.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My love for radio started in high school at North Mesquite. I was still living in Pleasant Grove, but we used an address to attend because of their radio program.

After school, I’d watch the K104 webcam every day—no sound, just visuals—and imagine myself in that space. My mom used to tell me, “Jr, with your personality, I can see you on the radio or TV.” That stuck with me.

I went to a 10-month broadcasting school and graduated at the top of my class. I thought opportunities would come instantly—but they didn’t. After a lot of rejection and some rough interviews, I landed a job at Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) as a promo assistant making about $10 an hour.
I eventually stepped away when life got real, but I found my way back.

Through persistence—and about 308 applications—I got an opportunity with Service Broadcasting through Premiere Networks, thanks to Gary Saunders.
From there, I worked my way up: board operator, overnight shifts while juggling a day job, weekends with Young Texas Radio, traffic, and eventually becoming a morning show personality on the nationally syndicated DeDe in the Morning Show.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?

Honestly, we’re like the Avengers of radio.

A lot of people know me from K104, but not many know I spent years working as a producer/Acct Mngr for a podcasting and PR firm.

I’m also naturally introverted, which surprises people. At the same time, giving back is a big part of who I am. I host community events that help bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement, and I give back during the holidays by providing food for families in need.

I’m currently working on launching my nonprofit, A Glowing Rose Foundation, in honor of my late mom and grandparents.

Looking ahead to 2026-2027, I’m focused on “Expanding The Brand” including hosting side of my brand and continuing to grow my network. I want the industry to know that TreG is carving his own path!
