Today we’d like to introduce you to Vasanth Vaseegaran.
Hi Vasanth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Vasanth Vaseegaran: From Applause to Legacy
“One spark of motivation today can shape the destiny of tomorrow’s generations.”
Vasanth Vaseegaran’s story begins in a modest lower-middle-class home in India, where music was more than an art form—it was a family inheritance. For three generations, melodies ran through their veins. As a boy, Vasanth sat wide-eyed in the audience while his father, Vaseegaran, performed on stage. On his third birthday, a tiny keyboard became his greatest treasure, sparking a passion that grew stronger with each note.
His father was both his first guru and his strictest critic—ensuring practice was never skipped, setting challenges to stretch him, yet always encouraging him with warmth. By the fifth grade, Vasanth found himself performing before a thousand people. When the hall erupted in thunderous applause, something shifted inside him. That moment lit a fire that never dimmed. Music was no longer just something he loved; it became his calling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
But passion alone was not enough. Coming from a middle-class background, opportunities in the competitive world of music were rare. Despite his talent and countless performances on big stages, the dream of composing for films remained out of reach. Like many, Vasanth chose stability over uncertainty. With a bachelor’s degree in hand, he entered the world of Information Technology and eventually moved to the United States. The job paid the bills, but his heart still beat for music. Many nights, he found himself awake—writing, practicing, and producing songs—unable to silence the dream that never stopped whispering.
Another turning point came in 2011, with the birth of his daughter, Sahana. By age three, she was humming in pitch-perfect notes, echoing Vasanth’s own childhood beginnings. Determined to nurture her gift, he searched for a teacher who could not only train her but also inspire her. But this became yet another obstacle. While many teachers could impart skills, very few could ignite true passion.
Vasanth didn’t want his child’s dream to slip away as his own once had, marked by roadblocks and rejections. Instead of letting this challenge hold Sahana back, he transformed it into a new mission. If the right mentor could not be found, he would become that mentor—not just for Sahana, but for every child with a dream waiting to be nurtured.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
V# Gurukulam – Music Learning Redefined
This decision gave birth to V# Gurukulam—“where music learning is redefined.” Leaving behind a 16-year IT career, Vasanth, with the unwavering support of his wife Radhika, dedicated his life to teaching and inspiring children.
In just five years, V# Gurukulam has grown into a thriving academy of over 300 students worldwide. Here, children don’t just learn to play—they learn to live music. Every student is trained to play at least three instruments and to sing, while being shaped into confident performers. This holistic training builds not only musicianship but also communication, self-expression, and personality development.
And nowhere is this transformation more visible than in the grand concerts organized by V# Gurukulam. Under dazzling lights, with the hum of instruments and the energy of a live band, students step onto the stage as true performers. When the final note fades and the audience bursts into applause, their faces light up with joy. For the children, it is magical. For Vasanth, it is personal. He remembers his own childhood—the thunderous applause that first lit his fire—and now he is determined to give that same gift to his students.
“The first applause can spark a fire that uplifts and inspires for generations.”
These concerts are more than recitals; they are celebrations of courage, teamwork, and creativity. Families and audiences from across the globe gather to watch, and every cheer becomes fuel for these young musicians—building their confidence, their character, and their dreams.
“We don’t just teach music—we teach life.” At V# Gurukulam, learning is tied to human values, inclusiveness, and the timeless Gurukulam culture where knowledge shapes not just skill, but character.
V# Music Foundation
Along this journey, Vasanth encountered something extraordinary. Among his students were neurodivergent children—those with ADHD and autism—who displayed a remarkable gift: perfect pitch. With non-traditional methods, he unlocked their potential. Children once labeled easily distracted could now stay engaged for an hour, fully immersed in the joy of music.
This breakthrough led to the creation of a special music band of neurodivergent kids—a milestone that redefined what was possible. Together with Radhika and couple of friends, Vasanth established the VSharp Music Foundation 501 c3. Its mission is clear: to create a sustainable future for neurodivergent children in music, where they are celebrated for their genius, not pitied for their differences.
A Legacy in the Making
Today, Vasanth may not be composing film scores as he once dreamed, but he has built something far greater. He has created a movement where children of all abilities can shine, a global family bound by rhythm and melody, and a vision that proves “music is not just an art—it’s a lifeline.”
From the first applause that lit a boy’s dream to the applause that now fuels hundreds of children around the world, Vasanth’s journey has come full circle. His story is living proof that when passion is fueled by purpose, it can transcend barriers, touch lives, and create legacies far beyond imagination.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of Vasanth’s happiest memories is sitting in the audience as a child, watching his father perform. The music, the thunderous applause, and the pride in those moments inspired him deeply. That inspiration became personal in fifth grade, when he experienced his own first applause before a thousand people—an energy that lit a fire within him. Yet, another memory is harder: countless rejections in the music industry, where lack of financial backing and connections often closed doors. Though such disappointments were many, the resilience born from that first applause still fuels him, guiding new paths so future generations need not face the same failures. “The first applause became the fire that no rejection could extinguish.”
