Today we’d like to introduce you to Vevica Harris.
Hi Vevica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Vevica, I’m 20 years old, and my creative journey began back in middle school. That’s when I first fell in love with makeup—I used to spend hours practicing looks on myself and my sister, just playing around and experimenting. Eventually, I realized I was actually pretty good at it, and I loved how makeup could totally boost someone’s confidence.
The moment I knew I wanted to take it seriously was during a Career Day at school. Two women came in to talk about cosmetology and all the different ways you could turn beauty into a career. That really stuck with me. From that day on, I knew this was what I wanted to do.
I kept practicing all through high school—doing makeup for friends, school events, and anyone who’d let me. After graduation, I enrolled in cosmetology school to level up my skills and really dive into the industry.
That’s also when I started my modeling journey. Being in that space allowed me to network with other creatives, do makeup at fashion shows and photoshoots, and gain so much real-world experience. It’s been an amazing way to grow both as a makeup artist and as a creative overall.
Now, I’m 20 and doing what I love—helping people feel beautiful and confident, while constantly learning and evolving in this industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—it takes a lot of patience. One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced was building my brand from the ground up. Putting my face and my work out there for the world to see was scary at first, and it took time for people to really take me seriously. In the beginning, I felt like some of my peers didn’t see what I was doing as a real career—they looked at it as just a “side hustle,” when in reality, I was putting in real time, effort, and passion into becoming a professional makeup artist.
Another challenge has been the ups and downs of running a business. As an entrepreneur, you definitely go through slow seasons, and that can be discouraging. I’ve learned that it’s all about patience and consistency—two things I had to learn the hard way and still work on. But I always push through and find a way to keep going.
On the modeling side, I’ve dealt with my fair share of struggles too. There are a lot of unprofessional agents or people who want to work with models but don’t have the right intentions. Some try to take advantage of newer models—underpaying, not paying at all, or acting like they’re doing *us* a favor. It can be hard finding legit, career-building opportunities, and it’s definitely taught me to be more cautious and confident in knowing my worth.
At the end of the day, the journey hasn’t been easy—but it’s been worth it. Every lesson, every challenge has helped shape me into who I am today, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a makeup artist who specializes in full dramatic glam and HD makeup—that’s really what I’m most known for. I love bold, flawless looks that make people feel confident and seen. I’m also an upcoming model and content creator, constantly pushing myself creatively in different directions.
What I’m most proud of is honestly just making it this far. Despite everything I’ve been through. There was a time when I didn’t think I’d get here, but middle school me—who was just starting to fall in love with makeup—would be so proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve grown not only as an artist but as a person, and that means everything to me.
Aside from my work in beauty and modeling, I also co-founded a nonprofit organization called *Just A Dancing Angel Inc.* with my mom. It was inspired by my older sister, Jada, who tragically passed away in 2020 in a drunk driving accident. She was only 19. Jada was an incredibly passionate dancer—she discovered her love for dance around the same age I discovered my love for makeup. She was the light of our lives.
Teaching dance was her passion. Jada was also the captain of our dance team in school, and she inspired so many of us, especially through dance. Her leadership, energy, and commitment to her craft pushed everyone around her to grow. After high school, she went on to dance in college and even started coaching young girls at a school outside of her college. She was so proud of that because she truly loved teaching and pouring into others through movement.
We danced together on our school team for a few years, and those memories are so special to me. While I realized later on that my passion was in makeup and not dance, the confidence that dancing gave me is the same confidence I try to help others find through beauty.
Jada constantly encouraged my talent—she let me practice on her, cheered me on, and believed in my dreams. After she passed, we wanted to honor her legacy in a way that would make a difference. That’s how *Just A Dancing Angel* (which stands for JADA) was born. Our mission is to empower dancers, especially young girls and their mothers, through community, support, and opportunities in the dance world.
Growing up with a single mom, I saw firsthand how hard it was to keep up with dance fees—but my mom always found a way to make it happen. That’s a big part of what our nonprofit stands for: supporting those families, lifting up dancers, and continuing the legacy of someone who gave so much to the people around her. Jada’s light still shines through everything we do, and I’m proud to use my platform to keep her spirit alive.
What sets me apart is the heart behind what I do. I don’t just create glam—I create confidence, connection, and purpose. Everything I do—whether it’s makeup, modeling, or community work—is rooted in passion, legacy, and love.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is helping others and making a difference in their lives—whether it’s through beauty, confidence, or simply being a positive presence. There’s something so fulfilling about building someone’s confidence through makeup, helping them see the beauty in themselves that maybe they didn’t see before. It makes me feel like I’m walking in my purpose.
I also find happiness in expressing myself—getting dressed up, modeling, taking pictures, creating content—anything that allows me to be creative and encourages others to do the same. It reminds me of my worth, my strength, and the beauty God gave me—not just in how I look, but in the hands and heart He gave me to bless others with my talent.
What also brings me joy is knowing that despite everything I’ve been through, I’ve still found a way to shine and uplift others. Whether it’s through my nonprofit Just A Dancing Angel, in honor of my sister Jada, or through a glam session with a client—I know I’m doing more than just applying makeup. I’m spreading light, honoring a legacy, and showing up for others in the way so many showed up for me.
That’s what truly makes me happy—using my God-given gifts to inspire, uplift, and remind people (including myself) of their beauty and purpose.
