Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Kammerich.
Hi Whitney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to both creativity and teaching. I originally studied art and drawing, and from early on I knew I wanted a career where I could create while also helping others learn. That path eventually led me to cosmetology, where I quickly fell in love with the combination of artistry, technical skill, and human connection.
Over time I began specializing in blonding and hair extensions because of how transformative they can be when done thoughtfully and naturally. The name Gilded Locks came to me during maternity leave after my son was born. The idea of gilding—enhancing something that already exists rather than covering it—became the philosophy behind my work.
Today I focus on luxury extensions, advanced blonding, and educating other stylists who want to elevate their craft.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building a business in a creative industry comes with a lot of learning beyond the technical side of doing hair. Over the years I’ve had to navigate the realities of entrepreneurship while continuing to grow as an artist, which has meant learning through challenges, partnerships, and big decisions about the direction of my work.
Another challenge has been the personal growth that comes with building a business. Over the years I’ve learned a lot about myself, the kind of work environment I thrive in, and the importance of the people you surround yourself with. Those experiences have shaped how I approach both my career and my education work.
Like most long careers, it’s been a process of learning, adjusting, and continuing to evolve, both as a stylist and as a person. Looking back, those challenges helped clarify what truly matters to me and the direction I want my work to continue growing in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist who specializes in luxury hair extensions and advanced blonding, with a focus on creating results that look completely natural and blend seamlessly with a client’s own hair. I work with all hair colors, but I especially love taking any canvas lighter and creating dimensional, customized blondes that grow out beautifully.
Much of my work centers around adding length and fullness with extensions, but I’m also passionate about density solutions for clients with fine hair, postpartum hair changes, or areas where they’ve lost volume over time. My goal is always to enhance what someone already has while making the result look effortless and undetectable.
I’m also proud of the education side of my career. Sharing knowledge and helping other stylists grow in their craft has always been something I care deeply about.
What also sets me apart is my deep understanding and empathy for the people who sit in my chair. Hair is often tied to identity and confidence, and I take that responsibility seriously. Combined with a strong attention to detail and customization, my goal is always to create hair that feels natural, elevated, and truly personal to the person wearing it.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite memories from childhood is spending hours drawing and creating. I’ve always loved art and working with my hands, and I remember getting completely absorbed in sketching or making things. It was one of those activities where time would just disappear.
Looking back, that creative curiosity really shaped the path I ended up taking. Hair has become another medium for me to express that same artistic side, just in a different form. Instead of paper and pencil, it’s color, texture, and movement.
