Conversations with Yasmin Martinez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmin Martinez.

Yasmin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for the beauty industry started at high school, where I attended LaGrone Technology Complex Cosmetology program in Denton ISD. Once I had graduated and received my license I started to work at a small salon, where my passion to be behind the chair grew even bigger to the point that I made my goal to one day have my own salon. In 2013 I decided to go solo and rented a suite, here is where everything had started for me. This is where I started to built a clientele and to learn everything I needed to know about responsibilities about running your own business. I admit the first few years were tough but I know God was opening doors for me to expand, in 2016 we made the big move to an actual building to start the business I had dreamed of. I wanted to create something where people like me who are passionate about giving their best to each client(Friend) that sits in our chair, I have always told my team to treat everyone like a friend and give their best to give them the best desired results. In 2020 like everyone knows salons got closed for 3 months and I felt like that was going to hold me back! But you know what it actually helped me to re-image the salon to establish exactly how I wanted everything to work. In 2023 we moved to a better building to expand our services, in this new Image of The Shears Studio you will find well-trained professionals, who will provide you with the best of their abilities. We offer our community Brow Threading by Mrs. MEENU SEN who has just won the best of Denton this year and I’m proud to see each of my team members grown tremendously, We have our Nail Studio run by Miss. LESLY MARTINEZ who offers Nail care and Pedicures, and let me tell you her work is amazing, very professional and cleanest for the safety of her clients is one of her priorities. Now hands down for my Hairstylist team, they work 24/7 if I don’t stop them, they love what they do, they’re passionate about their work and give their best to each client who sits on their chair, we do training every month to better our techniques, always looking into continuing our education to provide the best to our community. This is what The Shears Studio is about. We help each other grow. We want to provide our community with the best environment, services and results!.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has but it hasn’t, let me explain a bit, establishing a business specially in a very competitive industry is quite a challenge, but not impossible it just takes time, dedication, and discipline. The most challenging part or struggle is finding the right people to work with side by side, who has the same vision as you. But I really thank God because He is sending the right people to work with.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As Cosmetologists we compare our self with artists, each of our clients Hair, Nails, Brows is our canvas to display our creativity and abilities to our clients and to the people around them. We are known to be perfectionist, color and haircutting is one of our strong services at the salon, honestly it is hard to say what I’m most proud of, we all give our best and our work is impeccable on each of the salon areas of service.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Do not let anyone belittle you, no matter where you start or how big or small your dream/goal is to become in life, if you want it, you’ll work hard to accomplish it, if you believe in God trust me all things will workout the right way, your struggles will become your steps to reach your goal. It just takes patience and determination.
