Conversations with Zlatin Milev

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zlatin Milev.

Zlatin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Bulgarian, classically trained guitarist and a self published author, based in London.
I started playing classical guitar over 11 years ago and gradually made my way through rock music and onto heavy metal. I am currently a guitarist in 3 different music bands and have been working with amazing musicians. I also play piano, drums and sing.
My passion in book writing and poetry started back when I was in school, and recently I have published poems for different competitions and The National Poetry Library.
I published my first complete book (novella), “Tidal Invasion” in 2022 originally in English and have translated it to Bulgarian language too.
My education includes “Performing Arts and Production” at Barking and Dagenham College in London, the same College that Hollywood actor Idris Elba attended.
I have done online University courses on Poetry and have been classically trained through years of private guitar lessons.
I am also fluent in Bulgarian, Spanish and English languages.
It is my passion to always be productive at work, at the gym, in my hobbies!
I am quite interested in theatre and Italian style fashion so I also try to incorporate it into my usual heavy metal appearance.
I am currently working on publishing my first poetry books and releasing albums, solo and with my bands, and keeping my mind sharp by training every day!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My main struggles usually included; me trying to teach myself many skills, just so I can develop myself all the time.
Being in Bulgaria before getting to London made it difficult to find opportunities in music or in creative writing.
A challenge that brings more benefits in the long run is that I always try to keep myself busy and working on something through discipline and this can be tiring if done every day.
Being in a foreign country, I had to learn the language so well that I can connect with people better, learn the culture so I can blend in with the music scene and this helps me get closer and closer to my goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am proud of being a versatile musician and an enthusiastic self published poet.
My first book “Tidal Invasion” is my proudest achievement as I was on the newspapers with it and all around my college.
I am proud to be in 3 different bands and make the music I love, both collectively and solo, by myself.
I am currently improving my social media platforms and have built a good profile, showcasing my skills.
I was also interviewed by BBC as I had the highest results possible when completing my college education of “Performing Arts and Production”!
I have been training every day for the last 5 years to keep myself and my mind strong and sharp.

How do you define success?
I define success as having all creative ideas out there in their forms and balancing out every aspect of them.
Success to me are also all small wins and doing the work I love with people I enjoying working with.
Success is also having a family and being an example, a motivator, a partner.
