Daily Inspiration: Meet Bree Cunningham of 325 Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Cunningham.

Hi Bree, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
As long as I can remember, I’ve had a camera in my hand. I was the editor of my high school newspaper and was also on the photography team in college. After life got busy after college, the camera just stayed the back of my closet. my love for photography was re-spearked, actually, during covid. So many families missed the growth of their family for almost 2 years. I started by taking socially-distanced porch family photos in 2020 so families could still have updated family photos while everyone still remained safe. That then just snowballed into my Mother’s Day mini sessions selling out in 2021 (and 2022) and a VERY busy fall of 2021!! Everything rolling right into 2022 and another great year of photographing families in their homes, celebrating a new life entering or joining a family, and the beginning of a love story at weddings! I am currently about to head into another BUSY (almost sold out) fall mini-season with 2 more weddings, and a few more lifestyle newborn sessions in between alllll the fall minis as well!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think any entrepreneur can agree that building a business on your own is NEVER a smooth road. Building a client base in a giant metroplex city, keeping up with social media, social media trends, building a website completely on your own from scratch, all while trying to have the best client experience and avoid the ever-so-popular industry comparison to other photographers in your area. I’ve learned that my business is my business and what other people are doing is their business. Another local photographer’s success should be celebrated, not compared to my own success.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My photography business is centered around just enjoying the in-between moments. Posed photographs are NOT what I special in. People often see the word “lifestyle” and don’t realize its true meaning. To me, lifestyle photography is the “in-between moments” the kneel-down moment between a mother and son, the whole family erupting because someone said “fart”. These “in-betweens moments” are the photos that capture the true and genuine nature of your family. The look of a bride and groom about to kiss, the feeling the photo sparks because you are a witness to a moment in time that cannot be recreated in a stiff manner. It’s the in-between posing and prompts that capture the true essence and personality of life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Fort Worth is such a diverse city that has any and every type of backdrop you could want. The rooftop at the Sinclair hotel in Downtown, the waterfront of the lakes, to the greenery of Fort Worth’s many parks, it has everything you could want or need here which can provide some really cool and dynamic photos! Fort Worth is also huge, it has a “saturated” market of photographers. You can post on Facebook and get about 1,000 comments of people recommending photographers. So that fact is a bit difficult to handle at times. You’ll get so many people inquiring and then hear absolutely nothing after you respond. Have to continuously tell myself that people are looking for something specific, and I might not be the best fit for the, Services can be fast, cheap, and good. But you only get to choose 2 of those. Many people have in their head which 2 they want, and I may not fit in one of the categories they are after, and that’s OKAY.
