Today we’d like to introduce you to Abi Butler
Abi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Creativity has always been a huge part of my family and our life. I watch my Daddy flip our childhood home. He was constantly using his hands to make beautiful woodwork. My sweet mom and nanny were always sewing my sisters and I matching or coordinating outfits, quilts, costumes and more. My great grandma would share her latest quilt projects too and I can remember running my little girl fingers over her perfectly tiny and straight stitches. So having an outlet where I could be creative and share my work with the world was always in the back of my mind.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growth is challenging! But I feel incredibly blessed to have had times where I was at least 10 orders deep for custom bags, stockings, table runners and quilts! I literally have the BEST customers!!!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design bags, purses and more. I love a good bag, so that has ended up being my businesses main focus. While I design the shape, structure etc, I offer so many different options in materials, so my customer can “build their own bag”. When you order a bag from me, it’s a custom piece that I poured a lot of time, effort and thought into. My goal is to serve Jesus by serving others with beautiful, hand crafted pieces!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I feel like my story varies a little bit. Everything I’ve learned has been from my Nan, mom and sisters. There are a few things I’ve worked through by myself (like learning how to work with leathers and cowhide!), but for the most part, it’s been my family.
