Daily Inspiration: Meet Adam Hazlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Hazlett.

Hi Adam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was 13 when I got my first camera, not soon after did I lay it in the sand at the beach and it was pretty much ruined for good. Sand and cameras do not mix well… From there I was yearbook photographer my junior and senior years of high school. I knew that was what I wanted to do after graduation.

I graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a major in commercial photography before moving to the DFW area in the fall of 2003 where I really started to find my groove in the world of commercial advertising photography and my career started to grow. After several opportunities working freelance, I eventually landed one of my dream jobs right here in the heart of downtown Fort Worth shooting catalogs and online eCommerce for Pier 1 Imports, a career which spanned nearly 18 years. It was there where I really honed my craft and had some amazing adventures traveling within Texas and beyond to photograph in the most beautiful homes and locations.

In September of 2019, I shifted from the home goods market and moved into the fashion industry shooting everything from on-figure clothing to jewelry, and fashion accessories. I am always taking on new opportunities have maintained a book of commercial clients along the way and to this day I can honestly say that I have never felt like I’ve had to “work”, and how blessed I feel to be able to do what I love each day.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With any career path there were struggles, stressful shoots with tight deadlines. Trying to make sure I produced a product that met my standards as well as my clients is part of the challenge that pushes me in new directions. I think one of my biggest challenges was switching form home goods to fashion, it is definitely fast-paced and constantly changing which is something I really have come to appreciate.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being born and raised in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny mountains I have a deep love for nature and that influences my work in a lot of ways. In my free time, I love to travel and photograph the beauty I see around me. I’m a sucker for a good landscape photograph and I have a little bit of a thing for clouds, it’s one thing Texas has a lot of, beautiful skies, that go on forever and endless oceans of clouds that you’ll likely see me chasing after with a camera or two.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I believe success is something that really can only be defined on one’s own terms. Too many times we look to others in trying to define what is and is not. For me it can be as simple a feeling as contentment at the end of a long day or week, knowing I gave my all and my all is enough.
