Daily Inspiration: Meet Alicia Solis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Solis.

Hi alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Dallas-based DJ and artist who goes by the name Sólsis. From a young age, music was at the heart of my family gatherings. My parents taught my siblings and me how to dance early on, and it became something that truly connected us. We learned everything—cumbia, reggaeton, salsa, bachata, merengue, norteñas—you name it, we danced to it.

Later on, I fell in love with 90s hip-hop, R&B, and pop, and in college, I discovered house music—especially tropical house, tech house, and melodic vibes. That blend of influences really shapes my sets today.

Funny enough, it was my little brother who first picked up DJing. I joked that I wanted to learn too, but I didn’t want to learn from him—I wanted to really invest in it and master the technical side quickly. So I enrolled at the DJ School of Dallas, completing an 8-week program that gave me the foundation I needed.

After graduating, I pushed myself to take on free gigs so I could learn to read the crowd and mix on the fly. It was trial by fire that sharpened my skills and built my confidence behind the decks.

Today, I spin all around Dallas, playing high-energy open-format sets that showcase my roots along with all the music I’ve grown to love over the years. I’m also expanding into private events like weddings and corporate parties, where I get to tailor the music to make each event feel personal and special.

Overall, my path has been about staying true to my roots, embracing versatility, and making sure that whether it’s a club or a wedding, people feel connected through the music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning of the year I got let go from my job and I instantly felt destroyed. It was a tough moment—my confidence took a hit and I questioned what I was going to do next. But it only took me about two days to recover from that loss and get my mindset right. On the third day, I sat down and put a plan together to get the ball rolling on my business.

I decided to take it seriously and formed my LLC to make everything official. That step felt empowering, but it also came with challenges: figuring out legal requirements, setting up accounting, and learning how to market myself. I started reaching out to people in my network, building new relationships, and laying the groundwork for steady clients. Some days it’s easy to feel overwhelmed because there’s so much to juggle—branding, contracts, client communication, and making sure my service is top-notch.

Honestly, I’m still in the midst of putting it all together. It’s not a smooth or finished road yet—I’m constantly learning, adapting, and investing in myself and my business. But every obstacle has pushed me to become more resourceful and determined. Even with the ups and downs, I wouldn’t trade it. It’s rewarding to see my vision taking shape one step at a time.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an open-format DJ based in Dallas. My approach is all about versatility—I love being able to read any room and deliver exactly what that crowd wants. I’ve played everything from Latin nights with reggaeton and cumbia to hip-hop sets, pop hits, house music, and special events with really diverse crowds. I don’t want to be boxed into one style; I want to be known for keeping any dancefloor moving, no matter who’s on it.

I’m really proud of how quickly I’ve grown. I’ve only been DJing for about a year and a half, but I’ve already opened for big names like Rayburger and the legendary Mexican group 3BALLMTY. Those experiences were huge for me—not just because of who they were, but because they pushed me to be better and more professional.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with different cultures and audiences. I grew up around Latin music, but I also love house and all kinds of global sounds, so I bring that range to my sets. I don’t just play tracks—I try to create an experience that feels personal and memorable for everyone in the room. I also pride myself on building real relationships with my clients and the local scene, making sure every event I do feels unique and intentional.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is making sure people have a great time and actually remember the night. I love seeing everyone dancing, smiling, and connecting over music—that’s really what keeps me going.

I also care about building something real and sustainable with my DJ business. Financial stability is important to me too, because I want to know I can keep doing what I love long-term. For me, it’s about finding that balance between giving people the best experience possible and creating a solid foundation for myself. At the end of the day, it’s about staying true to myself, growing, and keeping the vibe genuine no matter where I’m playing.
