Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonna Dixon
Hi Alonna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out as an engineer but wanted more fulfillment and looked towards something that brought out my creative side. That’s when I found photography and feel in love with it. It started out with me taking photos on my phone and doing small edits. I would take those photos and post them on a small instagram account I made. Shortly after, I moved to Dallas and officailly started my photography career without any community here. Creating community in an area can prove to be difficult at first, but it eventually happens. Now, I have been able to make my passion a career. There are times it gets hard, but I wouldn’t trade it back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not always been smooth, my main struggles were creating a client base. I started here in Dallas without knowing anyone outside of my aunt and uncle (who, 2 years prior, had moved out here without community as well). I joined some groups of people who had newly moved to the area, went to a couple of networking events and just started there with meeting people. Secondly, I am not the best with posting on social media (currently getting better at that one) which was even further prohibiting me from getting my name out there. Along the way I met some great people that would always say they would need my services eventually and when those times started come around it was more of a word of mouth that helps me get business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer that has a focus in branding photography. I work with small businesses to help them get content to post on social media and their websites. I also do this for the everyday person who wants to tell a story through their content. The thing about my photography style is the artistic flare that I provide, I tell my clients it’s all about the angles, they are very important for how the story is being told and the perspective. With each client I learn about them as an individual, in order to help bring those unique aspects out.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
When it comes to my business the most important thing to me is getting my clients to feel comfortable with a camera in their face. In life the most important thing to me is mental health, it can affect us in so many different ways, namely physically. I’ve had a hard time with built up stress and just pushing my way through it, when in reality, breaks are needed, it’s okay to take it slow and that’s for every business owner!
