Daily Inspiration: Meet Amy Godwin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Godwin.

Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
At Tea Xetera, we are a retired military family that has made DFW our home. As a registered dietitian, I was ready to leave the hospital setting but still wanted to incorporate health in our family business. I fell in love with tea after drinking a London Fog several years ago and with a culinary background decided to take my love of nutrition, food, and tea and open a store that incorporates all. At Tea Xetera, we believe that tea should be a time of joy, laughter, and good company. That’s why we’ve stocked our shelves with only the finest organic, fair-trade teas and unique culinary gifts. Whether you’re in the mood for something sweet, spicy, or fruity, we’ve got just the brew for you! We carry loose-leaf teas, tea accessories, spices, seasonings, marinades, gourmet snacks, bath, and body products, as well as make teas in-house. We have partnered with local vendors to keep a sense of community in our shop.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We opened Tea Xetera in 2022, so still had some residual effects from Covid with supply issues as well as funding denials from banks for any food or beverage business. We pushed on through regardless. One of the biggest challenges of opening Tea Xetera was finding the right location. We needed to find a spot that has enough foot traffic to attract customers but that isn’t too crowded or noisy. Northlake Commons is a great place for both.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As owner of Tea Xetera, I run the store full time now as well as being a full-time mom. My life career was as a registered dietitian and home chef, so the combination of the two give me the experience to guide customers in their tea and culinary choices. I work with suppliers to select and purchase high-quality teas to offer in our shop. We have created a menu of teas, which includes various blends and flavors. As well as offer scones and other sweet treats that complement the tea.

My employees and I love greeting our customers and serving them the perfect cup of tea. We are here to answer any questions customers have about our products or the tea-making process.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I’m constantly reading cookbooks and plan to get some great ones in our shop this summer. Tea and Tattle is a podcast, hosted by Miranda Mills that features interviews with people who are passionate about tea, as well as discussions about books, travel, and culture.

Another favorite is The Tea Minded Podcast hosted by LaRue, a tea blogger, and enthusiast, and features interviews with tea industry experts, discussions about tea history and culture, and reviews of different teas.

And lastly, I always have the current Garden and Gun magazine on my table here; it’s my favorite!
