Daily Inspiration: Meet An Lusk

Today we’d like to introduce you to An Lusk

Hi An, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Texarkana my childhood was full of fun, scary, hilarious, sweet, and nostalgic stories with family and friends.

During adolescence I struggled with identity and belonging.

With young adulthood trial and error through traveling the world, pursuing different careers and lifestyles, most currently teaching, formed me into the most flourishing version of myself possible.

I currently teach and live in the city of Dallas.

As I approach midlife, I feel content in my life. My hobbies, philosophy, relationships, self growth, home, garden, mindfulness practice, and creative outlets give me so much joy. And I look forward to the second half of my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve faced living in a monastery, coming out to my family, teaching in an inner city school, getting lost abroad, sleeping on park benches, moving to the city with two boxes of books and sleeping on the floor, building a healthy conscious relationship with myself, others and the world, and creating a meaningful life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m most proud of my relationships, lessons, home and garden, and portfolio.

All of my art is donation based. Meaning, I create to create and not to make money or be a part of consumerism and capitalism. And if someone wants my work to add to their space to make it more meaningful I give it to them with only the expectation that they give how they can.

I create artworks through painting, drawing, installation, and viewer participatory artworks about leisure, love, mythos, my family, and sensuality. I write memoirs, poetry, and philosophy. And I homemake well.

I create spaces for students to explore freely. At grade school I teach visual arts and collegiate humanities.

I can accept, talk and listen to most anyone. I can create ideas, be funny and serious, see different perspectives, dance and sing, watch the world, make mistakes and live my fullest life and hope to share that in my art and teaching work.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I love to share my art and life. Check out my work on Instagram @au.lusk and anlusk.com
