Daily Inspiration: Meet Antares Felton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antares Felton.

Hi Antares, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Antares Productions was established in December of 2022, and started off as strictly a dance-film based company. All I had was my iPhone 12, a MacBook, and a dream of creating outside-of-the-box dance creations that told deep and personal stories. During my undergrad at UNT, I created a total of 5 dance films and posted them on YouTube. After graduating in 2024 with my BA in Dance, I decided it was time to use all of the skills and tools I learned during my undergrad to start my own professional dance company. Antares Productions officially moved from a dance-film company, to a professional concert and film dance company. Keeping our core values of telling personal and impactful stories, I also put an emphasis on showcasing a variety of styles through dancers from every walk of life. In May of 2025, we held our first company auditions and casted 6 dancers. Including myself and my Assistant Artistic Director, JL Baker, we debuted Season 1 of Antares Productions with 8 dancers. Our debut concert was held at UNT’s Dance and Theater Building. It was an incredible success! We are currently gearing up for our Season 2 auditions in May of 2026.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to creating Antares Productions into a professional dance company was long and tedious. There were many late nights and early mornings filled with grant applications, emails to different concert venues, and communicating with music artists and dancers in the company. In the beginning, I was paying for everything out of my own pocket; which meant pinching pennies and picking up extra shifts/private lessons at the dance studio I work at. However, the biggest hurdle I had to jump was the self doubt from myself. Growing up in the dance world, you are constantly compared to others and are consistently competing against your peers. The imposter syndrome was big, and it was telling me that I didn’t deserve this and wouldn’t be able to do it. Although I struggled with those negative thoughts throughout the process of Season 1, I had the best support system to lift me up. My husband, family, and cast were extremely up-lifting. They reminded me why I was doing the company and pushed me to keep going, even when it was hard.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Dance has been my life since I was 3 years old, however, I didn’t really form a true passion for it until I was 9 years old. I trained at Studio C Dance in Burleson, Texas, and then continued my journey through dance at the University of North Texas. When I was younger, the original dream was to own my own dance studio and teach kids from 3 years old until they graduated high school. However, that dream changed when I discovered concert dance in college. I immediately fell in love, and the dream shifted from dance studio, to dance company. I was inspired by local Dallas dance companies such as Bruce Wood Dance Dallas and Dallas Black Dance Theater. They inspired me to be just like them, but with an emphasis on showcasing a multitude of dance styles. Most dance companies in the area are either strictly ballet or modern dance, and I wanted to show the world that every dance style belongs on the stage.

I am known for a multitude of things, depending on which version of me I am in the moment. For my students, I am Mrs. Antares who is known for teaching anything and everything with passion and precision. For my company, I am Artistic Director Antares Felton who loves to tell stories through movement. For my dance friends, I am the girl who loves to try and put tap dance into anything possible.

I am most proud of the work that I create, both as a company director and as a dance teacher. I pride myself in creating works that I not only am proud of, but works that my cast and students can also be proud of. I am also proud of creating works that are true to me, not works to fit a certain “mold” or fit within the crowd.

What sets me apart from others is my sheer determination to always stay true to myself. There is a quote from a video game that I loved growing up that I hold dear to my heart; “Despite everything, it’s still you”, and I use that quote to guide me through my choreography.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Positivity and determination have been my personal characteristics for success. Holding the a positive mindset and never giving up has gotten me through the hardest of times while working through my company.
