Daily Inspiration: Meet Barbara Navarro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Navarro.

Barbara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Barbara Navarro and I am a Mexican female living in Fort Worth. I graduated from Texas A&M University in May 2021 and moved to Fort Worth to work as a Construction Manager for a Residential construction company in September 2021.

When I was in college, I took a communication class that encouraged us to create a written blog site. When the class was over and I saw the beautiful A on my transcript, I decided I wasn’t done writing or sharing my thoughts on the internet. That’s then The B Word was created. I have a lifestyle blog on Instagram where I share my life in the most realistic and raw way possible. I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with big-name brands and businesses such as Tiffs Treats, Fuzzy’s Tacos, Panera Bread, Stein Mart, and hundreds of local brands. The thing I love most is connecting with people and creating relationships with my followers.

During my years in college, my account consisted of study tips, college outfit ideas, and boy struggles. Now, as a young adult discovering adulthood my content consists of daily struggles, work-life, and learning to live alone for the first time ever!

This all began as an assignment in class and now it is something I could never imagine not doing!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The community in my hometown is very small, the type where everyone knows everyone. When I started my blog, it was far less common than it is now, doing something that was “out of the ordinary” like talking to your camera, blogging, and posting on Instagram was seen as “weird” or “cringe”. I had to shut out other people’s opinions and focus on what I wanted to do and how much I enjoyed it. I have always said, if people are talking about you, it is because you are doing something they wish they could. I think ignoring people’s opinions of what you’re doing has been the hardest challenge to face and overcome.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Construction Manager for a highly known residential construction company in the US. I oversee the production and construction of beautiful homes in the DFW area. This was nothing easy to come into. It is my first job out of college and it was not only difficult to adjust to a work schedule, but a world I knew nothing about. I studied communication in college with a minor in journalism. My whole college life, I pictured myself working in a tall skyscraper building in a business suit and high heels. I always imagined I’d work in the marketing or social media field, things that pertained to what I do on my blog and my major in college. Yet, life is crazy! And it will take you places you never through you’d go. I was thrown into the world of construction where I have had to study, research, and learn firsthand the parts and pieces from scratch. I work out on the field all day long, in work boots and a hard hat, and I would not have it any other way! Every day I am reminded that life is never what we thought it would be.

As one of the very few women in a predominantly male environment, I am not afraid of speaking out in a room full of males, yet it is still a struggle to obtain the same amount of respect as a male. I am proud to be a woman in this field, I wish there were more girls in this field so that together we can break gender norms and continue to show males we can do it too.
