Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Steinhardt.
Becky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
First of all, I wouldn’t be here without the support and generosity of so many people who have surrounded me all these years.
With a marketing degree in tow after college, I started on the corporate train. Years later, one final layoff had me consider a life change.
Reluctant to share with my mom I wanted to start a new creative path & build a business, she understood.
We toured the school on a Friday and I started that Monday.
Onto cosmetology I went.
Although it really was always in my blood from the beginning.
I was that girl who dressed up Barbies, loved fashion and all things award shows. The creative field just felt right. It still feels right 23 years later.
As long as I’m connecting with people that’s what lights my soul.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As so many of us experienced, it was a hard time coming out to our families 20+ years ago. It was a different time and I knew it was authentically me in my heart, but it was harder to explain that to my mom. As close as we were that crushed me. Luckily we found our way back.
In the middle of my cosmetology school journey I got diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid cancer.
Had surgery & got back to it. I wasn’t letting that stop me. I’m ten years in remission.
My father found fame in the music industry in his teens and my mom carved her path as a boss business woman in real estate, so there was a little bit of pressure to make something of myself.
I always felt called to act in movies and getting my degree in theater was where I thought I was starting this journey, but that was quickly thwarted when I learned singing was part of the major.
The year after I started college, now a Marketing major, I got my first freelance gig working for M.A.C. and I just had no idea where anything was going. I stumbled through corporate life, wanting to do things that brought me joy in artistry, but bills usually got in the way of that.
Now I’ve moved to a booming city after years of being in my comfort bubble of home (Tampa). Which means challenging myself to do things I never have before. And it’s been awesome!
I will say I have found people who lifted me up when I didn’t believe in myself and in the field of arts, believing in yourself can mean the difference between thriving and changing careers.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in natural airbrush makeup & lived in hairstyles for weddings, branding, events & productions. No George Washington hair here lol.
I’m proudest when I get to have tender moments with people where I know we were connected for a reason.
This has always been more than just a job for me.
The transformations where people tell me they feel like the best version of themselves lights me up and makes me so happy for them.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I despise the traffic and definitely the inconsistent weather lol.
I love the vast opportunities & how many more people I can connect with now!
More loves: traveling to new places, Twizzlers & discovering animals in their natural habitat
