Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Powell.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
What’s good guys, my name is Brandon Powell (AKA, Mooshu) and here’s my story.
Art has always been the center of my life. I’ve been surrounded by it for as long as I can remember, it’s the atmosphere I grew up breathing. At the age of 6 years old, I watched Naruto for the first time, and something clicked. I didn’t just enjoy it. I fell into it. Those intricate worlds, the characters, the emotion.. They became a part of me and quietly expanded the way I imagined everything.
Not long after, I picked up a pen and paper, and I was hooked. I became obsessed with drawing the characters that brought me so much joy, spending hours trying to recreate that same feeling on a page. At first, I dreamed of becoming an animator, but by the time I was 16, my love for art evolved. I discovered fashion and editing, and suddenly art wasn’t just something I did it became a way of life.
The idea that people could wear my art, or invite it into their homes, lit a fire in me that’s never gone out. Wanting to build a brand pushed me even further; I taught myself photography and film so I could tell my own stories and market my vision authentically. What started as necessity turned into another passion and, surprisingly.. Something I found I was genuinely good at.
I believe your life’s work is only as powerful as you’ll allow it to be. No pressure to reinvent the wheel when your work is honest, reflects who you are and what you stand for. THAT truth, that authenticity, is the one thing that can never be replicated because it is whole heartedly YOU. And if my story does anything, I hope it inspires someone to pick up a pen and start.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not, when I was 18 I had a very complicated living situation and to be honest I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I started a job where I was working 60-72 hours weekly and I was miserable. Everything I dreamed of doing was being put on hold and I had to make sure my life was in order.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I always describe myself as a creator rather than just an artist, because my work, until recently, doesn’t live in one lane. I do a bit of everything. Painting (both digital and traditional), graphic design, fashion design, photography, film, and editing. Creation, to me, is about building worlds, not limiting myself to a single medium. While I’ve long been recognized for my skills in painting, I don’t place one discipline above the others. They all stimulate my mind in the same way and feed into one another.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a specific category, but the way everything I create feels connected. The common thread in all my work is my style.. It’s honest, intentional, and true to who I am. I believe that’s what sets me apart. You don’t just see my work; you feel it. That authenticity can’t be forced or replicated, and it’s something I protect deeply in everything I put out into the world.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you decide to act on your ideas today, give yourself permission to suck. Don’t get overwhelmed by the idea of starting. Allow yourself to be terrible and keep going anyway because it’s what you love doing.
I was never “talented.” I was just someone who loved what he was doing long enough to get good at it.
Don’t trap an idea in your head and kill it with “that wouldn’t work because this or that.” Let it exist first. Let yourself see it. Then edit it like a mad scientist.
And realize this, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Too many people think they need to be the most innovative or the prettiest crayon in the box. You don’t. Perfect is rather boring.
Just let the world have a piece of your mind.
