Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Shelton.
Hi Brenda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and knew for certain that I would be a journalist. I studied Journalism/Public Relations at Indiana University – Indianapolis because I love telling stories and building relationships. While in college, I worked as a part-time leasing agent at an apartment community which is where I gained interest in property management. I loved helping my clients find a new home and seeing their reaction on their move-in day. I relocated to Fort Worth, Texas in 2019 after having a hard time finding full-time work in my hometown. I stepped out on faith and spent the first few months familiarizing myself with the entire DFW Metroplex. I always ran on local trails, explored new restaurants, and blog about them. After I successfully relocated to Texas and settled in, I knew that my experience would translate into real estate. I enrolled in real estate school at Champions School of Real Estate, successfully passed my exam, and I am now a Realtor with Rogers Healy and Associates.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can say it has been a smooth road. I feel as though I found my forever career. Real Estate is all of my passions combined. I remember after real estate courses; I would drive home feeling refreshed and excited about my new career. I am looking forward to all of the opportunities that come with this industry, and I am thankful for my support system.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In addition to being a Realtor, I work for a national corporation that specializes in property management software, data analytics, and services to manage rental properties and real estate. My role allows me to assist property management companies with their websites.
I also love sharing lifestyle and well-being content on my social media accounts. This gives me the chance to tap into my creative mind by taking aesthetically pleasing photos and videos. I also meet a lot of my real estate clients on social media. I’ve developed a small community and love the interactions.
I am impressed with my ability to maintain a well-balanced lifestyle. I love betting on myself and showing up every single day. I do not need an alarm clock to get out of bed; I am always eager to tackle a new experience. I am a go-getter, and even when my days aren’t going as planned, I will show up with a good attitude and find joy in the little things. I treat my clients like close friends and want to ensure that I am taking care of their needs.
I am not afraid to take a leap. I will ask questions, problem-solve, reach out to resources to get the job done. I specialize in the Central Dallas real estate market and feel comfortable navigating Fort Worth since I lived there for 3 years before relocating to Dallas.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see a ton of real estate opportunity in the next couple of years. Nearly 300 people relocate to Dallas, Texas, daily! I am constantly reading articles about big-name corporations moving their headquarters to Texas. This brings employees who need a place to live. Dallas is currently in a very competitive sellers market. Inventory is slim, and sellers are receiving over listing price for their homes. I see it staying this way for a while since Texas is such a desirable place to live.
