Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittanie Mcintyre
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Starting adulthood as such a young mom, stability was always my main concern, so art was never something I thought to pursue seriously. It wasn’t until the COVID lockdown in 2020 that I even realized creativity came naturally to me. With all that extra time at home, I started painting. First small things, then before I knew it, nearly every surface in our house had been transformed. That was the spark. Over the past five years, my artistic journey has evolved through different styles and mediums, eventually leading me to photography. Now, what started as an unexpected discovery has become a passion, shaping the way I see and capture the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. Balancing motherhood, a corporate career, and my creative passions has been a constant challenge. In the beginning, I struggled with imposter syndrome, questioning whether I was really an artist or just someone dabbling in creative projects. Time has also been a major hurdle; with kids and work, finding uninterrupted moments to create felt impossible at times. Financially, investing in materials, equipment, and later photography gear wasn’t always easy, especially when art wasn’t yet a source of income. But despite the struggles, I kept going. Each obstacle pushed me to adapt, grow, and refine my style.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is deeply rooted in storytelling, blending vintage aesthetics with a slightly eerie, atmospheric quality. I specialize in photography, capturing moments that feel both timeless and emotionally charged. Whether through portraiture or still life, I aim to evoke nostalgia and a sense of mystery.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come in embracing my artistry. Starting from painting everything in my house to now creating intentional, thought-provoking photography, it’s been a journey of self-discovery. My work isn’t just about visuals; it’s about evoking a feeling, telling a story, and making people pause. That emotional connection is what I strive for in every piece I create.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Absolutely! I’ve found inspiration and guidance from a mix of creative resources, business tools, and mindset-shifting content. For photography, apps like Lightroom and Photoshop are essential for editing, while Pinterest helps me curate inspiration and mood boards.
In terms of books, “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert has been a game-changer for embracing creativity without fear, and “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield is a must-read for overcoming self-doubt and procrastination.
Overall, I’m always looking for things that fuel creativity, push me to think differently, and remind me that making art is just as much about persistence as it is about talent.
