Today we’d like to introduce you to C.J. Bierscheid.
Hi C.J., so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always had an affinity for weddings. Maybe it was because I was a flower girl so many times, or maybe it just came natural. Either way, I have always been drawn to the pomp of weddings – mainly the bride. My mom taught me to sew, although I was not serious about clothing construction until college. I was always making dresses out of bed sheets or leftover fabric for myself or my dolls. When it came time to choose a university and a career path, it seemed obvious in the direction I was being led. I decided to go to Baylor University and study Apparel Design and Product Development. Although Baylor provides a well-rounded education, my concentration was in bridal and evening wear. I had the incredible opportunity of interning for a designer in New York the summer before my senior year. I accredit everything I know to that summer. I was given the tools and confidence to move forward in my dreams which have shaped where I am now. My original plans of moving to New York post-grad did not come to fruition. However, I have been provided an opportunity here in Dallas to see my dreams through when I am not working my 9-5 job.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say overall, it has been a smooth road. I have learned to expect things will always cost more and take longer than you plan for. So, I guess if you know that much you can be prepared. Dominoes are always going to fall, whether it’s a client canceling or a vendor no longer carrying product. Learning to overcome and be adaptable has made the road smoother than it could have been. I am so thankful I learned that lesson so early on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, I am specializing in veils and other bridal accessories. The plan is to eventually move into bridal gowns. I am most known among my peers for creating timeless pieces with modern twists. The biggest compliment I can get on something I make is “I would not have thought to put that together or do that, but it works!”. I love thinking outside the box while staying true to a classic bridal look and silhouette. I look up to Oscar de la Renta the most in this department. Even since his passing, his team has stayed true to his vision of never losing sight of the beauty of the feminine figure, and I hope to do the same in my career.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
