Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Dobbs
Hi Caroline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I first got started on social media through TikTok when I was a freshman at Texas A&M University. I would just make little lip-syncing videos and was honestly shocked that my following began to grow on the platform. My content took off after I made a video with my dad, taking the lyrics of “Shut up and Dance” by Walk the Moon, a little too seriously. Our “She took my arm” video from three years ago went incredibly viral and is still one of our most talked about videos today. Since then we have remade the video as a tradition every year on the same day. My social media content more recently has transformed from short and sweet to more vlog style and daily life videos. I’ve had an amazing time learning the ins and outs of lifestyle content creation and have experienced so many opportunities I never could have imagined. I am truly grateful for the platform I have been given and the unwavering support of my fellow students at Texas A&M, I am always star-struck when people come up to me and say they’ve watched my videos. I would not be here without the support of my family, friends, and my college station community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always seen my journey with social media as a work in progress. There is only so much you can learn unless you’ve gone through the trial and error process. It’s important to find out what works best for you and try not to compare yourself to others online. Everyone has to start somewhere, even the biggest influencers once had only 10 followers.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a full-time student and a part-time content creator on social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. I am mostly known for my day-in-the-life videos, showing my audience what my days consist of as a senior at Texas A&M University. One thing I am most proud of is how tight knit my college community is. I love being able to engage with my audience in person and have people come up to me on campus. It is such an awesome feeling to be recognized from my videos. I believe what sets me apart is my ability to make my content uniquely my own and let my personality shine through. While social media is something anyone can do, standing out and creating a distinct presence online can be challenging. I try to be as authentic as I can in all of my videos and aim to genuinely connect with people, even if it’s only through a screen.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite apps are Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube! There are so many ways to be inspired through social media, but I think it’s important to find a way to make it your own.
