Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline McKenzie
Hi Caroline , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
While studying at SMU I started working as a personal assistant for a family in Highland Park, whom I still work for to this day. I quickly noticed the need in Dallas for families that needed help from a personal assistant however, were not looking to hire full-time position. This job also worked perfectly with my schedule after college, as I have been continuing to purse my career in acting. Around auditions and bookings, the side-gig of a personal assistant has been flexible with my schedule and has allowed me to have the freedom to purse multiple areas of interests. I started working for multiple clients in the area with a need for on-call projects or assistance such as; event planning, organizing, travel arrangements, graphic design, personal shopping, etc.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Occasionally, an acting job will come and I will have to move around my schedule with clients. The saying “when it rains, it pours” has definitely taken effect a few times when it comes to scheduling, but in the end I make it work and get the job done! The clients that I have are very understanding and supportive of my passion, but also know that I will come through for them and what they have hired me to do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think it is hard for a lot of families in the area that either are looking for help for a day, a project, or a longer time period to find someone that is not a committed full-time or part-time hire. That is where I come in! Clients can hire me for as long or as little they need – all based on an hourly fee.
My favorite task is planning events and parties for clients. I feel very accomplished seeing all of the details come together and my clients enjoying themselves. When my clients are happy – I am happy.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Creativity and determination.
