Daily Inspiration: Meet Casso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casso.

Hi Casso, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Cassothagr8 or just Casso. Not Casso as in queso, but Casso as in Pablo, because I make art with my music.

When I was a child, my grandfather would play Ray Charles, Bobby Bland, Michael Jackson and the Temptations on the car rides to the store or wherever we would go. That alone got me interested in music and made me want to pick up the piano just like Ray Charles and the saxophone just like David Newman, Charles’ saxophonist.

I did pick up the piano but never really finished taking lessons, so when I got to middle school, I joined the band and started playing the saxophone. Another thing I would like to add is that my grandpa was always doing something involving speakers and technology. We would always go to RadioShack to get something. My grandpa would buy me speaker wire and I would wire up computer speakers in my bedroom so I could kind of have a theater setup in my room via an aux cable and RCA cables.

I met my friend @vega.vidi.vici in high school, and he’s now my go-to guy for animation. He handed me a cracked copy of FL Studio, which is where I made my first beats. When my friends and I did a talent show and did well, I realized I had a flair for producing and composing beats, and the next year, I was able to secure a prom performance for another friend.

After high school, I went to college to study engineering design and met a lot of nice people through hooping and campus organizations who are active in music. From there, I began making mixes for dance teams and simply making beats in my dorm room, as well as participating in campus artist shows.

Fast forward to 2019 I returned to Sam Houston State University. As we all know, college students don’t have that big of funds. So I thought it would be a nice idea to record people to earn some money.

And it was like a cascade effect, with people who recorded telling other people who made music; I had basketball players from the team recording, frat guys, and other people. My clientele was booming at the moment. I’d put out a couple songs under the moniker Cassothagr8. A label by the name of Death by Creation, or DBC founded by Ty deandre, Elijah J, and DLo asked me to engineer for them. I was an engineer working on something I enjoyed, and life was good.

Most recently, I worked with Lowtown Studios, a filmmaking firm, on a song for their promotional tour video. I’ve been collaborating with metroplex artists and musicians, including some new Houston artists and a few I met on tik tok.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not exactly, it was definitely a few bumps along the way. Fall of 2018 I returned home after two years of poor grades, probation, and the loss of financial aid. I took a few classes from time to time. While in Fort Worth, I met up with one of my best friends, Mylee 2.0, who has unquestionably influenced my perspective on music production due to his wide range of tastes. That summer, we recorded a rock-rap song, a trap song, and a country song all on one EP. That offered me a lot of leeways to attempt new things and do things that other people wouldn’t.

After going back to school fall of 2019 and after I started my business out of my apt, covid hit in the spring.

As a result of the move to online classes, I failed another class and was suspended. So, I ended up back at home.

The entire 2020-2021 period was so awful that it made me want to give up music entirely. I couldn’t record people because of my living condition, I went through various professions, none of which were a good fit, I lost friends, everything just went downhill, and I ended up in a sad state. I found myself doing things I wouldn’t typically do and wouldn’t be proud of if anyone knew, and it finally dawned on me that I needed to change my ways.

I’m now more positive, focused, disciplined, and looking forward to new beginnings more than ever.

My hardships resulted in some positive outcomes. During my time here, I was able to meet a number of musicians from all across the metroplex and network with many more artists. I’m currently working on some projects with a few artists in the metroplex, so keep an eye out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multi-genre music producer, beat creator, artist, and audio engineer who works in a variety of genres. I’m a music producer with experience and willing to keep learning to improve my craft so I can help others. I’m known for my musical and gear knowledge as well as my inventiveness. I want to create a positive influence and help as many people as I can, therefore launching a musical blog to provide musicians with straightforward information is something I’m most proud of. The capacity to adapt to anyone’s sound and having a diverse musical palette are the major characteristics that distinguish me from others. I’m able to collaborate with musicians from all genres, and I’ve found that many individuals focus entirely on one sound, which allows me to distinguish them apart. I’ve always watched out for and invested in my artists, from equipment to plugins because I want them to be able to create something unique and share it with the world, just like I want to do with my own music. My goal is to use my talent and stories to inspire others while also providing an experience. Many individuals simply enjoy going along for the ride, so why not give them an opportunity to do so?

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
I feel that in order to succeed in life, you must take risks. The issue is, everyone is different, and many individuals live their lives without taking any risks. I, for one, desire more from life than just to be comfortable. There are many things to learn, feel, and appreciate, and there is often no way to get there without taking risks. I believe that someone who takes risks has a better chance of achieving their ideal lifestyle. It’s terrifying, but taking that risk could be the difference between having the best future, a horrible future, no future, or an okay, comfortable future. There are risks associated with taking risks, but there are also benefits.
