Daily Inspiration: Meet Chandra Mayne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandra Mayne

Hi Chandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve had many careers over the years. However, my true passion is in the beauty industry. I’m a licensed manicurist for the state of Texas. I obtained my license in California where I’m originally from in 2010. I actually fell into this industry on accident. A friend of mine asked me to tag along to tour the school she was looking into, Marinello Schools of Beauty. I loved everything they talked about on the tour so much when we got home I begged my mom to allow me to sign up. Me being 20 years old at the time I had no idea that I was falling right where I was meant to land. I obtained my license and moved to New York City to live out a childhood dream. . That was a wild ride. The loss of my grandmother (my biggest supporter) passed away suddenly and those dreams of living in New York City no longer made sense. I packed my things and headed out on the next flight the following morning. I decided to plant roots in Arizona, which is where I met my husband, Reuben. Little did I know our worlds would collide and we’d build everything I ever dreamed of. . Having a family. We started dating in 2017, by 2018 we welcomed our daughter Emma, and married a month later. How did we end up in Texas you ask? Funny story actually. . My husband accidentally applied for a job here. It was offered to him straight away and we had 2 weeks time to find a place to live. I picked Anna on a map and said this is where I want to live. Cute little small town just outside of all of the major cities. . We packed our things and arrived here in July of 2018. By September of 2019 we were welcoming our second child, Preston. Preston changed my life. Preston was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the age of 3 and I’m learning though him what it’s like to be patient, kind, and caring. I was encouraged by a friend of mine to get back into doing nails again to keep my mind busy. . December of 2020 I decided to pick up the brush again and I haven’t looked back since. I truly find joy in making others feel beautiful. In December of 2023 I launched 6 Twenty-Six Nail Bar by The Nail Mom Chronicles. Who knew something as simple as getting your nails painted and having someone to vent to about whatever is on your mind, would be my every day life. I have a steady amount of clients (my books are open). I get to paint on tiny art canvases, while my clients get to relax and leave their problems at my door. . Even if it’s just for a couple of hours. I’m a proud gel nail specialist. My primary focus is healthy natural nails.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for me. My journey has taken many pauses and many breaks along the way with a lot of in-between career changes. My biggest struggles have been overcoming my anxiety while starting over in a new place. I’m quite an introvert with a very extrovert imagination. I want to be the girls girl and enjoy their company but, the shy girl in me is often overcome with anxiety. I just want to ensure my clients happy with my services.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a gel nail specialist. My top priority is the health of my clients natural nails. I’m most known for my structure/builder gel manicures. If you were to ask my clients they’d tell you I’m most known for my attention to detail. Hahaha

I’m most proud of myself for finding my way back to my passion after 13 years. I’m thankful my husband supported me in my decision to go back to the beginning and do something that serves me and my clients needs.

I feel what sets me apart is there aren’t many, if any gel nail specialists in the North Dallas area. I have clients who come from Frisco and Murphy to get their nails done by me because what they’re looking for isn’t available in their area.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a very shy girl! I stayed to myself and I never wanted to be the center of attention. I’ve always been huge into art. I’ve been coloring and painting since I was about 6 years old. Every Christmas my mom would ask me what I wanted and art supplies was always first on my list. Ironically I was a Tom boy in middle school through high school. I rode skateboards and wore baggy clothes. Ahaha I didn’t have an interest in nails, pink things, or glitter. All of which are the things that make me smile now.
