Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanesia Johnson
Hi Chanesia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Chanesia Johnson, better known as DJ ChelleMechelle “The Lady DJ.” I am an open-format American Disk Jockey from Dallas, Texas with 7 years of experience.
Most of us can credit our parents for our taste in music. My mom had me and my siblings listening to all the good music in the 90s. That’s where my love for R&B and Neo Soul came from.
I got my start DJing at DFW swingout events. Swingout is a very sexy and sophisticated partner dance to Blues, Soul, R&B, and sometimes Hip-Hop music. Soon after I began taking on private and corporate events. I started to incorporate my love for Pop and Rock music. That’s when I created my identity as an open-format DJ.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working full time and being a DJ is not for the faint of heart. I have a very demanding job as a police detective, but I also have to juggle the responsibilities of being a DJ. That includes responding to inquiries, managing social media, networking, and most importantly practicing my craft.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most known for the nostalgia I bring to guests at events. I love to play music that brings back good memories and makes people dance. I love to see their expoessions while I’m looking out at the crowd over my computer screen.
What are your plans for the future?
My future goals include taking on more corporate events. I also want to experience DJing on a cruise ship or resort in another country. I plan to offer more comprehensive services including more complex lighting, cold sparks, fog, etc.
