Daily Inspiration: Meet Chastity Hillman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chastity Hillman.

Hi Chastity, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started in Middle school. Searching for someone to do my hair was always an issue, so my sister and I started practicing on each other. Braiding was my first love. I got so good at it people would ask me all the time who did my hair or my sister hair. I started doing hair around town and it became a dream of mine to do hair. I moved to Texas in 2012 and finished hair school. I have been doing hair for 14 years and I love it!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. It was a challenge building my brand and gaining clients but once the word got around and people saw my work, it started to become easy. It’s never easy in the beginning cause you have to build your name and style up but once you do keep it up and keep getting good at what you do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a hairstylist. I do all different kind of styles. I love to do silk presses and braids. I am most proud of how I’ve improved in braiding and keeping up with all the new trends. It’s pretty exciting. What set me apart is my clients are my priority. If it’s something they don’t like that I have done, I will fix whatever issue right then. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them. I can take constructive criticism because it makes me better.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I want to teach other upcoming hairstylist what I have learned. The ins and outs. I didn’t have anyone to teach or show me. I went in blind but I gained so much and I’ll love to pass it on.
