Daily Inspiration: Meet Chelsea Speaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Speaks.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Vocal. Ambitious. Driven. Relentless; these are just a few words to describe the woman I am today. Growing up a Pastor’s daughter was not an easy journey but it shaped and prepared me for the calling I am now walking in. I was always known for music, specifically my singing ability but little did I know, music was only an extension of my God-given creativity. I spent the first half of my life trying to break into the music industry before discovering that my faith and beliefs wouldn’t allow me to “sell my soul,” as they say. However, as life often takes unexpected turns, so does one’s perspective of finding their true purpose in life. In 2018, I started my organization, Women Are D.OP.E., which stands for D.ivine O.verachievers P.ropelling in E.xcellence. Right after competing and winning 3rd place in the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant in Orlando, Florida. From there, Women Are D.O.P.E. was founded off my own desire to create my own tribe in a world where I felt like I didn’t fit in. I wanted to create a tribe of “underdogs” and place them in positions to win… the positions they deserved to be in. Beyond that, I wanted to add all the elements I felt were missing in other women’s empowerment events into mine. In fact, one way that we have managed to dominate our lane is because Women Are D.O.P.E. embraces the women who are winners but the world doesn’t feel like they “look” like winners.

Women Are D.O.P.E. also continues to dominate because in 2020, we were one of the only organizations who were able to host an in-person conference with nearly 200 women in the middle of the 2020 Pandemic while managing to still keep our attendees safe while using social distancing procedures. My desire to build up Women Are D.O.P.E. also came from my own desire in wanting to be a world re-known speaker who is known for her messages that set women on fire and help set women free. After healing from childhood trauma, recovering from drug addiction, and a slew of self-disappointments, I made God a promise that if He delivered me, which I knew He could, I would always acknowledge Him first in everything that I did moving forward. God kept His promise to me so this is me keeping my promise to Him. Since then, Women Are D.O.P.E. has taken on a life of its own. We are now approaching our 3rd conference and are now a weekly radio show at 102.6 The Situation-Atlanta-Charlotte. Beyond that, Women Are D.O.P.E. has also become an apparel line and is finally moving towards being a household name that women all around the world admire and respect.

My goal in life was never to be famous or seen. My goal in life has always been to be heard and felt. Developing my organization and seeing the ways in which it helped me become a better woman, friend, partner, as well as life and branding coach has changed the course of my future forever. Looking back over my past, there is not one thing I regret because all the pain, hurt, embarrassment and shame I endured only taught me to believe that when you stand on your OWN dirt, no one can use it against you. Women Are D.O.P.E., all in all, was built on the back of a woman who refused to stay silent, refused to wait on others to give her a chance, and refused to believe that she wasn’t good enough to And that’s exactly what I did. From hosting women conferences to becoming a best-selling author to my book “Consequences of Truth” to facilitating meaningful connections, and now helping other women brand and market their life visions, the journey has been every bit worth it!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At this point in my life, that question tickles me because I’ve always believed that nothing worth having is easy, hands down. I’ve had numerous struggles with finding the right radio station to make a home for Women Are D.O.P.E, struggles in romantic relationships because my success means more to me than anything and for women in business, sometimes there’s a season where you have to pick one over the other and struggles with accepting the fact that my platform was built off my ability to stay transparent when we’re often told as coaches, not to show our weaknesses. Altogether, however, when I look back, the things I once saw as struggles have now become nothing more than scars to show I’m a survivor and that through it all, I’m STILL standing and THAT’S what Women Are D.O.P.E. is about!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a best-selling, published author, Certified Life Coach, radio host for 102.6 The Situation, a branding coach and also the Public Relations Head for 102.6 The Situation. I also specialize in helping my clients brand their visions as well as re-brand because I truly believe that we ARE our own brands. Right now, what I’m most proud of is the Women Are D.O.P.E. radio show!! Every Thursday night feels like a special day where I get to connect with my tribe in a refreshing, fun and dope way. I am also Ms. Central Florida, 2018 and 3rd runner up in the Ms/Mrs. Corporate America Pageant. Becoming a “pageant girl” was always a dream of mine as a little girl so when I had the opportunity to compete in this particular pageant in 2018, I jumped in, head first! To this day, being in that pageant remains a highlight of my journey and life. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I push the mentality that being “dope” means being unapologetically you and realizing that it’s okay to put yourself and your goals first. What also sets me apart is my unconventional approach to coaching and speaking. Rather than trying to be overly professional, which can come across as pretentious, I believe that being myself and keeping my content raw, real and relatable is the main ingredient that sets me apart.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
My first answer to this question will always the Bible. However, the book I’m currently reading is “The Seat of the Soul” by Gary Zukav. I came across this book when doing research on the books that Oprah read in the prime of her career. The book is about intentions and how getting to the root of one’s intentions ultimately determines the manifestations of their thoughts. Very powerful book!
