Daily Inspiration: Meet Chris Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Brown

Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m the founder/creative director of Refueled magazine, and co-founder/creative director of Refueled Creative Agency.

I became interested in media at a very young age. Television, radio, and particularly print in the ’60 & ’70 shaped who I am today. At eight years old I began producing a neighborhood zine. My intent was to mix the counterculture shift I saw happening around me with the humor and rebellion of MAD magazine. I became known as this little self-publisher. Refueled is basically an extension of that early DIY ethos.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Humbly I say I’ve been truly lucky and blessed that I found an audience early on. Refueled readers are incredibly dedicated. After sixteen years of publishing, I wouldn’t be here without them. Most of the people that surround me are creatives – artists, musicians, actors, photographers, and makers. My friends alone give me access to amazing content and inspiration. I strongly believe in cultivating and supporting a creative community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a publisher, creative director, and artist I feel my role is to take the things that interest and inspire me, and share them with others. I’d say I’m known for truly being myself and presenting a project in the most authentic way possible. A creative starts at the bottom of a circle, gains experience and moves through an education of their craft. It’s when you move beyond that and start going back down the circle, forgetting everything that you’ve learned, that you come back to a place where you’re trusting your instincts, and your unconscious voice.
