Hi Claudia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
All it took was a nutrition class my junior year of high school to bring out my passion for cooking!! It was then that I truly realized how much I love it!
From there I attended El Centro College in Dallas, TX, and obtained my Associate’s degree in culinary arts with a specialty in baking and pastry in 2010.
For about 9 years I did private events only! Then in 2019 when I hit layed up from my primary corporate job, I opened DS Sweet Treats and Catering to the public!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well of course I opened at the beginning of a pandemic! I was so discouraged but I kept going, kept marketing and posting and it was a great year! We had to figure out a way to market and survive our quarantine and chill boxes were a hit!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in small-group catering and Cake Art! I am most known for my creative cake designs and my garlic Parmesan wings! I am most proud of being able to make people happy on their special day! Especially weddings, that’s what it is all about for me! I love to see my clients’ faces when they see their good or their cakes when they taste it, and see the setup! It warms my heart!
I also love my private chef moments! Engagements are my favorite! Definitely book us to give date night that extra bump and flair!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
You always take risks in business everything is a roll of the dice! Most of my risks comes from doing public events. Popup shops, trade shows, etc, you never know what kind of crowd you are serving! I usually take the most popular items and pray! I definitely don’t like to bring anything back!
