Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Hines.
Hi Crystal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been immersed in painting and drawing since the age of 10. Credit for my artistic roots goes to my dad, a talented artist himself. I recall fondly those moments with him, especially seeing a large portrait he painted of me, igniting my desire to follow in his footsteps.
High school introduced me to various art classes, like ceramics, where I found my stride. However, upon entering college as a Biology major, I strayed from my artistic path. Intimidated by others’ talents, I temporarily set aside my passion.
Yet, artistry found a new canvas in the kitchen during college. Cooking became my outlet, where I could still express my creativity. Gradually, I honed my culinary skills, delighting friends with my culinary creations.
It wasn’t until after college that I ventured into entrepreneurship. Establishing CCXV & Co. in 2018 was not just for me but for my son. I aspired to build a legacy, ensuring generational wealth for my family.
Initially focusing on meal prep catering, CCXV & Co. soon expanded its horizons. Rediscovering my confidence, I reignited my passion for painting, exploring new techniques like art pour. With each brushstroke, my skills grew, and with my first painting sold, a new chapter began.
Diversifying my business, I ventured into various endeavors: launching a swimsuit line, publishing children’s books, and journals, and creating merchandise featuring my artwork. I also embraced teaching as an art instructor at “The Scene DTX “and actively participated in art shows, embracing limitless possibilities for growth and evolution. I continue to evolve as an artist and entrepreneur.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! The journey hasn’t been a walk in the park, but it hasn’t been horrible either. Wrestling with artist’s block is a genuine struggle, one that can persist for months or even years. I found myself in that rut for over six months, devoid of motivation and struggling to summon the creative spark.
During those times, even securing new clients felt like an uphill battle. But I’ve come to understand that the tide turns when you rediscover that creative flow, when inspiration strikes, and you find yourself immersed in a flurry of nonstop creation.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in incorporating resin into my artwork, utilizing various textures to enhance the visual appeal of my pieces. The use of resin not only provides a stunning finish but also adds depth and dimension to my paintings.
One of my proudest achievements, setting me apart from others, is the creation of my positive affirmation children’s books, which have garnered success on platforms like Amazon. These books not only aid children in learning print and cursive but also instill valuable affirmations, making them a significant contribution to education and positivity.
In addition to my children’s books, I’ve recently published a journal on Amazon, featuring scriptures and accompanied by my own illustrations and quotes. This project allows individuals to reflect, find solace in faith, and draw inspiration from the fusion of words and art.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I appreciate most about Dallas, Texas is the sense of community I’ve found here. It’s been my village, a place where I’ve had the opportunity to network and forge meaningful friendships with like-minded individuals.
On the flip side, what I least enjoy about my city is the weather. The unpredictable nature of the climate, from scorching summers to chilly winters, can be a bit challenging to navigate at times.
