Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisy Lopez
Hi Daisy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been into makeup since I was in high school, back when everyone was watching YouTube videos of makeup tutorials. In college, I’d have sorority sisters ask me to do their makeup for formals and stuff but I was always so nervous because doing makeup on others is way different than on yourself. My sister and friends for years kept pushing me to do it but I was always too scared.
In October of 2022, my boyfriend was in his best friend’s wedding and you know how weddings go. You’’re paying for a dress, nails, hair, etc. and a friend and I wanted to get our makeup done but I really didn’t want to pay for something else. So I told her to let me practice on her before the wedding (that’s how nervous I was) and it went great. Day of the wedding, it went even better! Afterwards, my boyfriend had told me I should really pursue being a makeup artist. I knew once I started building my kit, I had to really commit because makeup is expensive. By November of 2022, I finally got the courage to become a makeup artist! Promoted myself so much on social media, practiced on friends and here we are today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the smoothest. I’ve had quite a few health related issues to both of my arms (frozen shoulder and a fractured clavicle) which has really affected my work for long periods of time within the last year. They still affect me today, but I’ve managed to still be able to glam my clients with little to no pain!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a makeup artist specializing in bridal, special events and photo shoots! I’m know for soft glams but I also do love my full glam looks.
I am most proud of my work ethic. I work full time in the corporate world and have been doing makeup part time now for 2.5 years. For one year of that, I also had a third job bartending. So working hard is in my blood! But being a makeup artist truly brings me joy. I think what sets me apart from others is that I become friends with every person who sits in my chair. When you sit in my chair, I want you to feel welcomed. The best compliment I could receive as an artist is not only how I made you feel beautiful but how I made you feel so comfortable and at ease.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Definitely has to be visiting my mom’s hometown in Mexico. She’s from Teocaltiche Jalisco and she’s one of 13 kids my grandparents had. Safe to say we have a huge family but it’s always been so much fun being around everyone!
