Daily Inspiration: Meet Danielle McKinnis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle McKinnis.

Hi Danielle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I really enjoy good food. Me being a Louisiana native and him from Alabama we were always looking for something that tasted like home. The Cajun cuisines and staples such as crawfish just didn’t taste like what we were used to. Knowing that the DFW area has a lot of people here that have also migrated from Louisiana we know we were not the only ones who were looking for some good “Louisiana” food! We purchased our food trailer a little before the pandemic. Once the pandemic hit we were hesitant to get started with everything going on, as businesses began closing and not allowing dine in. In March 2020 school districts also began to close their doors. Since I am also a teacher I now had a little extra time to get Spicytails up and running. So in March 2020 we officially started Spicytails.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part the road has been pretty smooth. Other than the typical maintenance issues and learning what works best and what doesn’t things have been pretty good.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Spicytails is owned and operated by both my husband and I. In addition to Spicytails we both have professional careers outside of the business. I am teacher in Frisco ISD. I teach high school History and have taught for 20 years. My husband, Robert is a sheet metal journeyman and welder. We have 4 children.
