Daily Inspiration: Meet Darius Yancy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Yancy

Hi Darius, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing in 2020 when my first child Nora was born. In addition to the challenges that came at that time(Covid, my older brothers passing), I found myself oddly struggling with his death, but also grateful for her life at the same time. As fatherhood consumed me, I began to invsion my daughter as a cosmic warrior and I visulaizing her that way, my mind conjured up enough questions and answers to write out fictional worlds of wonder and characters that gave all of my emotions a place to call home. Fast foward 5 years, I written 20+ stories, created 200+ peices of art and published 3 books. Writing has become therapy for me and a passion of mine that I can’t live without. Two children later, I’ve published 1 poetry book called MY DELICATE COURAGE, a booklet on storytelling called MY FUNDAMENTALS OF STORYTELLING, in addition to my latest release, which is a scifi series called This Is W.A.R(Warriors Across Realities) with book one, Survival of A Bloodline out on Amazon now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth, oh heavens no. There is so much that goes into putting on paper a story that you want to bring into this reality. Grammar, editing, beta readers, flushing out whats needed and what’s not before publishing. Oh, and lets not forget a marketing. These have definitely been humbling speed bumps. Yet I’m so grateful for them, because they helped me to understand the path to storytelling so much better. I must add that everyone needs just a few people around to bounce ideas off. But make sure it’s people who support you, because writing is a very vulnerable thing to do, especially in the early stages.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So by trade, I am a MMA/ Boxing & Functional Strength Training Coach. I used to fight in MMA professionally, but stopped in my 20’s because I grew a love for sharing the physical and mental confidence and knowledge I had pertained to people who lacked it or wanted to become sharper. I also use my skills to teach Nonprofit classes and teach Self Defense where its requested. Since 2013, I’ve been teaching at one of World Ranked MMA Gyms, called Fortis MMA in Dallas and am grateful for my coach and founder of that gym, Sayif Saud for also seeing the service I could be to others through Mixed Martial Arts. Lastly, my experience as martial artist has definitely played a huge part in my writing journey and also given me tools to write notable, authentic fight scenes!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck, honestly. Everything is tied to his divine plan. The possessive ego is bruised when we make our own without proper guidance. And I have been so blessed to not have been given luck, but guidance and circumstances that drove me to be humble, be love, and live on purpose with all I do.
