Daily Inspiration: Meet Dava’ B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dava’ B.

Dava’, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been interested in creating and fashion, arts all those sorts of things. From my childhood, it reflected what I’d be doing now my favorite things were Bratz, my scene; I loved the show true Jackson VP! I knew from a young age I wanted to create be in the arts and ultimately be my own boss. Around my 8th grade going to 9th-grade summer, I got an idea to drop ship items online, that was my first ever business at 14 yrs. old it was called (Theillville) that lasted for about a year I was still learning and getting used to owning my own business and marketing however in that span of a year I made $1,000 of my own money from my online boutique at just 14 that’s when I knew I was meant to do this. Later on, in high school around my senior year, I started another business called (LUVIV) a graphic t-shirt business and that lasted up until covid began getting serious and after the first lockdown, I knew I wanted a fresh slate and to design my own items. I’ve always known I was going to eventually do this I had the name and idea for AVAD since 2016, but I thought I would be doing it later in my life in my mid-20s.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had many obstacles and challenges, and a lot of them were centered around communicating. We don’t realize how much communication plays a huge role in everything we do it is a way of life we live off communication. When things aren’t communicated effectively or correctly that can cause a lot of unwanted & needed stress and confusion my biggest takeaway from this entire journey has been to communicate efficiently if I am confused about a text, I can’t be afraid to pick up the phone and ask or ask for clarification to get an understanding. Even communication with my customers during the process of production this is slow fashion, and everything is handmade. I don’t have a big team, so communication comes in handy with that whole process Aswell.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I don’t like labeling myself just one thing. I know majority of people may just view me as a designer; however, I like the term creative a bit more. Designing is one of the many things I have a passion for and dabble in, but I am in love with creating in general and overall arts. In addition to designing, I am an actress graphic designer, music producer, and photographer & I am in the works of creating a short film that should be out sometime in 2023.

I am most proud of my resilience I can be hard on myself a lot thinking I should be doing more, and of course, everyone could be doing a little bit more but looking back at all I have been through and overcame and seeing my growth and my vision of what I want and claim coming full circle in different ways every day that is something to be proud of, baby steps are still steps and progress is still progress despite how much or big it is.

What sets me apart from others, I believe is my authenticity; I truly believe what we love as kids is our true callings, and what I am doing and what I have plans of doing is something I’ve always known I would be doing and something I’ve always wanted to be doing. I notice a lot of times how impressionable people are and how a lot of times I feel people do things to bandwagon or to gain from rather than genuine interest, and I genuinely am interested and love everything I do I think that’s what sets me apart

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory isn’t really a memory; it’s more so a feeling, just the overall feeling of joy and no worries freedom, and genuine excitement for things because we are so oblivious to things as an adolescent. My favorite childhood memory is the kid-like joy about everything!
