Daily Inspiration: Meet Dawn Frentz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Frentz.

Dawn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got into real estate sort of by accident in 2005. I was in the IT field and after 9/11, continually on the chopping block because of the state of the economy. We had two small kiddos to think about and we finally decided to sell the house and downsize. Long story short, I had 2 different high-producing agents try to sell our home and neither worked. We were locked into the second one for a while and I jokingly said to my husband that I could easily do what they do and save us a ton of money… so without telling anyone at the time, I got my real estate license. Well, I sold our home for full asking price in 3 days in a terrible market! (Pretty sure that was a God thing) I was fully employed at the time and had a pretty decent salary and benefits but for some reason, that listing experience and sale sparked something in me, and in December of 2005 with no database, no prospects, and no booked business, I quit my cushy job and went FT into real estate!

I’m not going to lie… it was a struggle for years. I have been through bad economies, sellers’ markets, buyers’ markets, and everything in between. NOTHING has been quite as insane as the post-Covid real estate market, in my opinion, but I’m still out there, working hard for my clients. Between the time I got into the biz and now, I’ve been through a divorce, gotten remarried, and raised 2 outstanding young adults. I’m an Aggie Mom and a Jayhawk Mom and couldn’t be prouder of my children.

I just finished my 17th year and my business is almost 100% referral-based! I am so thankful for happy clients who refer me to friends and family and come back to me again and again. I also have really strong agent partners, who I send and receive referrals from all the time. I wouldn’t say I have a specialty but I do really get a lot of personal fulfillment out of helping first-time homebuyers and single Moms become homeowners. There is just really something about seeing someone work hard and succeed at that level and getting to be part of their story. It rocks.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles happen and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to hide under a rock sometimes! Mindset is such a big thing in my business and I really rely on my faith, my family, and occasionally a little Tito’s to get me through it. You can’t please everyone, every time…. you just can’t. I am a people-pleaser so that’s hard for me to grasp sometimes. I also have a really cool situation with my business where VERY frequently my clients become friends and I like to have friends….so when every so often one comes along that just wants to complete a transaction and not make a personal connection, that feels weird to me. A good friend of mine, who also happens to be a Broker recently told me I have to take the emotion out of the transaction, it’s the only way to get through it. I think I agree with that on a case-by-case basis. For those of you who understand the DISC personality assessment, I am an equally high I-D. So, I want to get to know you but if you don’t feel the same way, okay… I’m still going to kick ass for you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Well, I’m a loud and proud Texas REALTOR. That is REAL-TOR. Not Real-uh-tur. 🙂 I specialize in residential real estate sales and handle both buyers and sellers. Listing homes is probably my favorite because it allows me the opportunity to be creative and get into marketing, which I LOVE! I always include staging and brilliant photography and run a mad social campaign. It’s fun, it feeds something in me. I am known for being professional but fun and also for putting my big agent friend network to good use when I can. I have partnerships with agents around the country (and the world, honestly) from every brand… I love them all equally but I am proud to be with Coldwell Banker Realty. I am all about the WIN-WIN and I think everyone knows that about me. I am based in Prosper and specialize in the north Dallas suburbs but I pretty much go about 50 miles in any direction to take care of my people.
